They are forcing Japan to invest $500b in the US. The type of industries for those investments will be decided by the US, not Japan. But the thing is that Japan only has $1.23 trillion foreign reserves, of which over $1 trillion is in US treasuries. This way, the US is robbing the Japanese of their foreign reserves. What China, as the largest trading partner of Japan, can do is that it can require all bi-lateral trade between the two counties to be conducted in local currencies. But Japan is overloaded with $US, but not RMB. Japan will then be forced to dump their US treasuries and buy more RMB.
