Trump is going to raise tariffs "substantially" in the next 24 hours lol

Trump on China
Both Trump and Modi are in a hard spot: both have to present a win to their base and can't be seen as losing, but by definition only one of them can win.

My money is on Trump, Modi will try to gloss it over somehow with 大乘赢学 and declare another 10 days of holiday to celebrate or something.

Trump will have to make concessions to get a trade agreement with India. His main demand is India opening up their agricultural sector to US farmers export with zero tariffs or restrictions. Except for India that is an absolute red line where 44% of the workforce is in agriculture (voters). It would politically be the end of the BJP while decimating India employment rates.

Have you seen the obscene maintenance contracts that the American primes get away with. The MIC is built around making sure the officers in charge of procurement contracts getting cushy VP positions when they retire. We all laugh about India's blatant corruption, but it's just about as bad in other countries. It's just that the Indians suck at propaganda.
To be fair, there is the kind of corruption that things still get done, and there is corruption that is crippling. When things are going well, no one will question too much, which is how you get away with it. The AVIC corruption looks like that. The US Cold War era until the late 80's was like that. India is the latter, Tejas/LCA, Kaveri, Akash, etc.
The other major problem is that buiding this massive process chain is going to take a lot of money, probably in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Which would be fine except that the rare earths industry isn't very valuable monetarily. For example, in 2024, the US imported only $170 million of rare earths. The return just isn't there so why would private companies invest the necessary money? And when we add all this up, it's going to take 10+ years to replace China's output, and it just looks more and more unappealing.
This is probably the number one factor. A friend who has been working in the mining industry for many years now says that most Chinese mining companies are state-owned, therefore they are much more amenable to taking in smaller profit margins (or even losses). This is how they were able to successfully commercial acid leaching for processing Nickel ores.

Apparently China's rate earth tech has been under siege for quite some time.

American, Australian, Japanese, Europe companies poached Chinese rare earth engineers with loads of money. Many emigrated and took core tech with them.

Damn, why is it so easy for those countries to poach Chinese talent ? Shouldn't the govt have known that rate earth tech was a national security risk earlier? And implemented visa restrictions and increased salaries and benefits earlier before these engineers were poached?

They poached 47 engineers so far. I hope China's rate earth engineer talent is deep and prevent further stealing of their tech.

Anyone with more knowledge can shed light on how damaging these thefts and stealing of talent was to china? And how much it helped the west?
Are you Taiwanese? You look at this like you are from frog island.
China is "poaching talents too, SMIC's CEO was from Taiwan and look at where they are now.
Frog island's solution is to try to block engineers from leaving the island now. You think this is a viable solution?
Of course China would not want to lose top engineers, but it is an impossible task to stop people. All you can do is promise them a better long term environment. For engineers to join western and Japanese companies, there is a big risk that these projects can be cancelled at any time once interest wanes. Any project engineer knows this risk. Sometimes you have to take the money that's in front of you, sometimes it's not worth it long term. If you try to block them, they will almost certainly leave because no one wants to be trapped.

Allegedly found in Dallas, Texas:

The average Chinese government official probably got this on WeChat and laughed at it and didn't go any further.

When the CIA saw something like this, they decided to plow millions and millions into the project, allowing the organization to spread worldwide, buy a huge complex in NY State, and the wife of the leader to buy a huge boatload of designer goods, and is now fully out of control and accused of spreading conspiracy theories domestically.

Incompetence of Chinese officials on display (semi-joking):
Complaining about this

($266 million)

Granted there is a 20 year difference, but even by 2000 they were able to buy Dragon Springs (400 acres)

Yeah try to make it sound that Chinese are thinking of it because demanding the Chinese see it this way has the opposite intended effect. Working with Israel is the only way forward for China's strategic self-interests and future... Typical tactic of the Western media where beyond reporting news, they also report wishful thinking like they're seeds hoping what they plant will take hold and grow. You know how they stereotype Asians as being obsessed with saving face? This is their saving face. They don't want to look weak admitting they need China's help and they don't want to have to beg for it especially after they got is so wrong. Take a look at the the West's own news. Despite Trump's trade war, China is growing contradicting the West's previous propaganda narrative that China is in a irreversible collapse and especially because they don't listen to the West. China's technology sector is surpassing the US and the West. China just came out with possibly at least two more latest generation military aircraft aside from the two others just six months ago. The US ain't stopping China. Trump got it wrong where he said Americans will cry for the US to stop winning so much. No, they crying for China to stop winning this much.

The Chinese don't cry over spilt milk it didn't spill. Israel and the Jews primary ally in the world are the people who did commit crimes against them and who see their God wiping them out to usher in the return of Jesus Christ. They instead chose to side with the people who love to force others to think and be like them who are also the primary instigators of antisemitism in the world. They don't make good choices in life and their biggest one will be thinking they can make the Chinese their enemy so they can lay a guilt trip for a "crime" they never participated in history. You figure that would be a positive in their eyes for a people who are paranoid that the world hates them but instead they see it as threat because they have nothing to hold over the Chinese.

You hear of things like Catholic or Jewish guilt. At first you think of it as a positive trait meaning they're self-aware and have a conscience but it's really about manipulating people into doing what they want out of a sense of obligation. The West's tactic towards China is to accuse Chinese of a crime so the only way to prove it's not the case is, not by addressing the said wrong, but by expecting blind obedience in anything and everything to prove Chinese are not a threat to them. That's the only way because if you're willing to do that, then you're safe to them because you're not thinking of anything for yourself but only for them.

Israel is now even insecure with its main ally, the US. That's why you had an editorial in Israel calling for Israel to look for a new alliance with India and other Far East Asian countries aside from China. Israel running around like a chicken with its head cut-off. Can't rely on the US anymore when polls are showing the majority no matter what political affiliation are turning on Israel. And the main countries of this new alliance mentioned have all had scandals of Hitler bars opening in those countries.

Israel's biggest strategic value to Beijing is it's influence over US politicians. If Israel could broker the sale of a small insignificant island like Hokkaido to China for 30 cents and piece of chewing gum, I think China should view Israel very positively.
