When it does, I'm sure there will be the inevitable hand wringing and looking for someone or something to blame as if it must be that China must have copied/stolen/cheated in some way as they cannot comprehend losing in actual direct "fair" competition.

This kind of attitude goes back all the way for centuries to things like people's disbelieving reactions to Marco Polo's writings. The initial reaction will be disbelief and contention that somehow the numbers or accounts must be faked, paid shills, etc... When the evidence becomes too widespread and impossible to dismiss, then the hunt for a scapegoat will begin or the accusations "cheating".

Even now the west/others have attributed this "cambrian explosion" (love this term from a member here)of Chinese success in all fields especially technology to "space aliens{" we have captured from the far side of the moon and interrogated for their secrets?????the west has become indians in their delusion and decline.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if China did find some downed alien spacecraft and exploited it for technological advancement. After all, the American's got their semiconductor knowledge from Megatron's frozen corpse.

Truly. And then they will think about all sorts of inane ways to try and throttle China, without realizing that China is so large that it can itself approximate global-scale demand within its borders. Chinese innovation has been driven by domestic demand, not by export demand.

I'm sorry, but China's innovation is indeed driven by the outside, and before the 17-year trade war, China's economic center has always been focused on foreign trade, and you regard the purchasing power of the current Chinese as before. China is advancing so fast that people often forget that 30 years ago, China's per capita GDP was comparable to that of India and Africa. In fact, as can be seen from India with the same population, the population has produced very little effect. China is actually due to industrialization before reform and opening up, and standardization and marketization after reform and opening up. communicate with the world and undertake the world's market to achieve scientific and technological progress. This is why we regard reform and opening up and the globalization of the economy as national policies.

I think the reason pretty simple, a lot of these thinkers only know English so everything they know about China come from English-language sources like the Diplomat or Foreign Affairs. And as we all know by now, these sources can have very spotty information. So without any further ability to look deeply into the matter themselves, it's all too easy to settle on the China that existed 20-30 years ago and imagine that not all that much as changed. And it sort of makes sense too, in many ways not all that much has changed in the US or Europe in this timeframe, so someone not paying attention that the same is true of countries like China as well.

Or when they realize things are drastically different, they conclude that it is impossible to have done this without wholesale cheating or theft since they cannot imagine accomplishing the same themselves. They are resistant to changing their mental stereotypes because it gives them the comforting delusion of being able to think themselves superior and looking down on Chinese and other Asians as uninventive low cost sweatshop slaves. The alternative would have to admit to losing to non-whites in innovation and creativity, and the cognitive dissonance of that is too uncomfortable for most to stomach.

This is not a joke. Last time they held the Commonweath Games in India, a very large number of swimmers got ill and could not compete. Among many issues, another that stood out the most were that their scales were so inaccurate that they were sometimes off by as much as 8 pounds, causing mass hysteria amongst wrestlers, boxers, weightlifters, etc... as everyone missed their intended weight classes! Some athletes began undertaking drastic and dangerous methods to lose more weight, unknowingly dropping several pounds lower than their bodies have ever tolerated before the issue was exposed. Anyone who remembers this will adamantly oppose allowing India to host any serious competition again.

Anecdotal evidence but I noticed foreign athletes tend to underperform a lot in intentional events hosted in India. You also hear complaints on stuff like bad hotels, food, infrastructure etc which all affect your mental state and physical performance on the day.

Considering sometimes these are world championships and you want to be at peak performance on the day, this is basically significant negligence and should be considered active sabotage against foreign athletes. Why India has not been punished for this is outrageous.

Yeah duh. These athletes are trained in top facilities and athletes typically have poor immune systems because their bodies constantly expend everything on performance. You put them in a garbage dump, they won't be able to perform well.

I don't think they were trying to pull anything. This is literally India's best. Dirty water and malfunctioning equipment is what India's about.
