Regarding the recent Russian blunder, I'm honestly disappointed by the lack of foresight that some members have shown in this thread, stating that China should take back some territory and "secure the northern borders" while somehow ignoring that if they actually allowed Russia to collapse, China would be screwed for the same reason Russia would be screwed if Ukraine aligned with NATO: Super Duper long borders with plenty of flatlands, especially in the north, which would allow troops to easily storm in (look at Kursk) AND moutains, which impede radar coverage and would allow stealth aircraft and missiles to easily sneak in. These borders would require a ridiculous amount of soldiers and equipment to fully cover, something NATO can afford due to being a big alliance of multiple countries but China can't due to having to also deal with South Korea, philippines, Japan, India, maybe Vietnam and potentially even Australia. NATO, QUAD and others would have the possibility of employing multiple attack vectors for missiles and aircraft from nearly all sides along with being potentially able to ferment unrest in some far-off areas by exploiting holes along those "realistically impossible to secure borders" to smuggle agents, substances and weapons (like, say, ETIM). And did I even mention how it would allow the west and their allies to completely blockade China? Russia should never be allowed to lose and collapse or it will be GG WP for China.
