AI industry is enslaved to the power industry. GPT training is already running into power constraints.
I think a lot of it is due to safety. Not just safety from theft, robbery, getting run over by reckless/drunk drivers*, but also safety from typical tricks at touristy places like overcharging, bait and switch, etc. S Korea somehow is seen as a "less refined" version of Japan, so people who can afford to go Japan don't go to Korea. And JPY has been getting weaker.
* If the perps are from the US occupation army then too bad.
For China, the perception is still that tourists get ripped off, rule of law is weak, and so on, fueled by the west's relentless propaganda drive. China's usage of digital payments via mobile phones is another barrier. I mean, typically when tourists had a good time they'd think about coming back. But if they only remember that daily life was difficult because they couldn't even pay for stuff, and that the Great Firewall blocked them from checking with trusted sources, then they are less likely to return.
Making it easier for foreigners to pay for stuff in China using familiar mechanisms will surely help.

They are two types.
One type jokingly called 精英. Generally they speak English, get all their "news" from CNN, Bloomberg and their ilk, speak their own Chinese dialect (and blame the government's Speak Mandarin policy for their next generation's poor grasp of dialect), know how to write their names in Chinese but have poor command of the Chinese language overall and cannot speak complete sentences in Mandarin without using English to join sentence parts. Oh, they usually belong to a particular religion. There are a lot of such people in the upper economic/social echelons of Singapore society.
The other type jokingly called 精华 usually got good grades in Chinese language in school
and are more diverse in their religious beliefs. 与有荣焉 describes their mentality towards the re-emergence of China.In informal social settings, when people from the two types mix and one side begins praising/dissing China, the other side doesn't respond and changes the subject.

I could care less if China is seen as a less desirable destination for tourists. Is it because of China is missing making money or is it all ultimately about being liked? If it’s the latter, that’s just sad because that just confirms an inferiority complex where the people you’re seeking affirmation from also hate you.
This is always something I hate about Chinese foreign policy. The more a country expresses hate for China, the more China wants to insert themselves there. It’s like a belief that if China floods itself there, the people there will be forced into accepting the Chinese. I can see how that stirs up hatred of the Chinese. Normally you avoid places where they don’t like you. But the Chinese want everything as normal as possible including economics. China is filling the gap where the US doesn’t have to pay while they stir up anti-Chinese hate where the country in question doesn’t have worry about losing China as economic benefactor. You think the citizens of that country know? Everything to them is as it should be so they can go on hating the Chinese as normal without feeling any consequences.

This is the hypocrisy of the Democrats. Mayorkas is only going after the Chinese because the Democrats don’t want to lose the Latino vote. The Democrats don’t have to worry about losing the Asian vote.

Russia will not surrender to these 21st century wannabe-rulers-of-earth (i.e. US neocons/neolibs + minions). Of course, these "fine people" will continue start stirring the pot in Asia /and elsewhere in order to preserve their hegemony. Unless Russia and China surrender to these "fine people", their aggressive globe-spanning hybrid warfare will continue.
IMHO, the 2014 US coup in Ukraine essentially kicked off the beginning of the end of US neocon/neolib hegemony. It demonstrated to an global audience, excluding US satellite/vassal states, that the US under neocon/neolib control was increasingly turning itself into the per-eminent global security challenge of our time.
Personally, I see no problem that China supports Russia in their fight against the neofascist US proxy in Ukraine. I believe China is well aware that they are next if Russia were to submit or fall to US neocon/neolib aggression.
I just wonder what the "true free world" (i.e. all states that are not US vassal states) will do in the meantime. They will have to figure out an effective and constructive way to navigate these difficult times.
