if illegals are not in the US legally, and if the employer knew, they'd either not hire them, or not pay them minimum wage. if they had to be paid minimum wage it would be irrational to hire an illegal when a legal resident or citizen is paid the same.
Mexicans also "DIY" and "sneak over the border". Yet they still get enslaved. There;s more Mexicans in the US, they speak a European language, and more people in the US speak Spanish than Chinese, but they still get enslaved regardless, why?
That's what a rational actor would think. However, the US has demonstrated many times it is anything but that.

Most internet JHs are H1-Bs. Before everyone used to joke that India Superpower 2020 comments were all written by Indian engineers in SV, while their supervisors were looking the other way.
Of course now everyone's working from home, they can do it to their heart's content.
Of late a lot of Indian travel YouTubers have been sharing vlogs of fifth tier cities and poverty alleviation villages. It is eye opening for a lot of people in India who follow this sort of thing.
