Better that they are arrogant and stubbornly refuse to do the right thing. This way, when China comes to take back its rightful property, it can also claim the British Crown Jewels as spoils of war under the same justification.
You can do that anyway after they return the stolen artifacts, I'm sure there are other debts owed.

The real Crown Jewels of the anglos aren’t some trinkets in a dusty English castle. The real Crown Jewels are the continents of Australia and North America- such jewels are unbecoming for a pissant cowardly merchant race of pirates who play at hegemony.

Majority of Taiwanese seeks and wants independent since 15 to 20 years ago. It doesn't matter if these politicians are KMT or DPP or independents. It is just some faction of CPC is still refusing to acknowledge such simple truth and wanting to court, appease, incentivize Taiwanese to accept peaceful reunification.Very interesting.

- identity politics maybe inherently unreliable
- the point of identity politics is identity, and not anything else

Guess we are still left with the status quo.
But the status quo and military balance might not really exist anymore after that Pelosi visit.
Last two thoughts, how that war turns out in Europe is vitally important, how China and Philippines tussle over their claims is kind of important.
We know, people are watching that intently.
However, as much as Taiwanese wants independents. Majority of Taiwanese doesn't want to fight and defend its independent and is willing to accept CPC's rules and surrender if China attacked. Polls after polls are shown there is no willingness to fight.
