The US made a big gamble with the "Axis of Evil" in 2001, seems like they are making another huge gamble for 2022 and beyond. Over the past 20-40 years, the world super powa (us, china, russia) was in a "dance." Each country would do things to annoy each other by maybe bumping into each other to scratch the paint or leave a dent, but the US seem to have recently try to bump both Russia and China off a cliff.

Con or not, I commend Foxconn for their acumen to not go any deeper into the bog. So many other companies were deluded into thinking India was a gold mine.
Xiaomi thought they're an western company so they follow the hype while that of BYD and HW are proud Chinese, also their CEO had studied at Chinese university instead of going abroad so huge difference.

Indo-Pacific is US foreign policy language there. This Indian-ASEAN policy definitely has an anti-China agenda. India can 'Act East' all it likes. China is already working all over the world.

Cyber and financial cooperation with ASEAN? Show us the money then. We are still waiting for something serious from India till this day. No BRI, no RCEP. Who the hell is India to come and compete with China in ASEAN?

Maritime security? Like arming ASEAN nations against China? Even that, there are already much better options, like South Korea. It wasn't too long ago that the Indian media was telling the whole world that Malaysia was gonna buy the unproven Tejas. Why should ASEAN take India seriously?
As they said "TALK IS CHEAP". ;) I hope his Indonesian host is kind enough to let him ride the Jakarta Bandung HSR and see how he react...lol

Blinken, China’s top diplomat discuss rivalry in effort to bolster ties

Biden administration officials say they see a brief window to build out a relationship that has declined over years of disagreements on fundamental issues like trade and Taiwan, compounded by isolation during the coronavirus pandemic. As Democrats and Republicans alike compete to project a tough-on-China image in the run-up to the U.S. presidential election, the hope is that exchanges now may bolster trust during future rough patches.

Those could be especially critical amid increasingly

. U.S. officials have sought a permanent military-to-military channel to make sure the two superpowers can ward off miscommunication and reduce the risk of war. So far, Beijing has rebuffed them, and U.S. diplomats on Thursday said no progress was made in Jakarta.

Not much mention of Ukraine, interesting ;)

The article made it as if the US has no vulnerabilities, their entire semiconductor chip industry relied on Chinese processed rare earth minerals

I would bet the US will have more difficulties in replicating China's dominance in mining and processing rare earth than China in replicating US semiconductor chip making industry, due to their environmental regulations, corruption, inefficiency and high cost

China has minimal connections with US, especially when it comes to cutting edge areas. Where America excels at is that they provide more commercial price friendly components for some local companies.

The ball is in US' court right now if they can even keep their higher tech running in the face of the newest sanctions. And even if they can maintain productivity, what matters is that China will keep expanding the lead at a pace which America couldn't keep up with even before the sanctions.

Challenging a bigger economy is a guaranteed death sentence unless the smaller party can somehow infiltrate the bigger party and convince them to give up. America may have counted using subterfuge, but Xi Jinping removed any vestiges of rot in the system they could have used. The failure to predict that has costed America greatly and will cost them much more the more they escalate and brings Chinese opinion about America into the negatives. China can outspend, outbuild and blot out anything America tries to do, as long as China remains united in destroying the American threat.

Remember during the pandemic, China rendered massive aid to America - continued access to Chinese pharms, without which a majority of American patients would go without antibiotics, painkillers, ORs in America would not be openable, mortality would enormously increase, both for covid and non covid cases.

The public in China went all in on fighting the virus and half heartedly, if even that, on fighting America. That will change when American rhetoric escalates.

I'm hoping for an actual civil war. It would be good karma for them trying to sabotage China's BRI, SCO, BRICS, etc.

Biden signs order to call up 3,000 troops for Operation Atlantic Resolve in Europe

President Joe Biden signed an order on Thursday allowing the Pentagon to call up as many as 3,000 reserve troops to support Operation Atlantic Resolve in Europe.

Operation Atlantic Resolve began in 2014 in response to the Russian annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula and it “provides rotational deployments of combat-credible forces to Europe to show our commitment to NATO while building readiness, increasing interoperability, and enhancing the bonds between ally and partner militaries,” per U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s website.

While Biden's order provides the Pentagon with the authority to call up troops, DOD did not make it immediately clear as to whether they would, in fact, call up additional reservists.

Last year, the administration increased the troop presence in Europe by about 20,000 troops as Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to invade Ukraine, bringing the total U.S. force on the continent to approximately 100,000.

"The designation of OAR as a contingency operation is an important demonstration of the U.S. commitment to our NATO Allies and partners," U.S. European Command Spokesperson U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Speaks said in a statement. "It further provides US EUCOM with greater flexibility to support continued U.S. and Allied commitments to the defense of the Euro-Atlantic and allows us to provide key entitlements to the forces who support those commitments."

The operation will now be designated as a “contingency operation,” Joint Staff Director for Operations Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims told reporters on Thursday. “This new designation benefits troops and families with increases in authorities, entitlements, and access to the reserve component forces and personnel based on the level of presence and operations in the US EUCOM area of operation.”

So now US reservists are being deployed to Europe. The 3000 is still a drop in the bucket with the 100,000 they already have there but the “Operation Atlantic Resolve” has now been upgraded to a “Contingency Operation.” This designation allows access to US reserve forces to be used.

Sims told reporters on Thursday. “This new designation benefits troops and families with increases in authorities, entitlements, and access to the reserve component forces and personnel based on the level of presence and operations in the US EUCOM area of operation.”
