Sounds like they are wanting something from China as a negotiation tactic. If China bows, other nations will follow suit. Just ignore them like they said the relationship is not important for either nation and so it shall remain.
That's not the point. Taiwan is still being internationally recognized. Yes, Lithuania and other East European countries are insignificant. However, if you ignore it, it will eventually become a slippery slope. One rat is nothing, but 10 rats are a headache. As long as no major power recognizes Taiwan, it should not matter if 1 or 20 minor countries recognize the island as a sovereign nation. It mattered little 10 years ago as it is the same now. Today's China has real military and economic power, unlike 30 years ago when it needed as many countries it could get to recognize it as possible. That's not the point. A former Soviet republic with a population smaller than new zealand and a GDP of less than $60 billion trying to play big boy politics.
Let them fxxk off. And live the illusion that Taiwan is the right move. Sooner for later, Taiwan is going to be just another province of China. Good move little former Soviet republic!
