Isn't Russia also just engaging in thieving back though? By forcing near free sales of western IP, or trapping said companies and making them unable to sell, milking them for legal fees indefintely.

The economy of Russia itself has so far come out of the conflict at a net win, which is to say, the country is growing at a comparable or better speed than if the war didn't start. That said, I guess many elites in Russia did not come out with net wins.

Considering this is the seizure and allocation of a sovereign nations reserve funds, yes its an escalation. And all of Russia's actions are in response to western actions. That " they also seized assets" is the new justification for this. I expect some sort of false flag over the next few months too with Germany starting the ball rolling and seizing assets this week.
