Uganda Won't Follow West in Normalization of Homosexuality,
Uganda will not agree with the West, which seeks to impose its rules normalizing and celebrating homosexuality, said the African country's President Yoweri Museweni at the nation's Janani Luwum Day festivities in Kitgum District.
"We are not going to follow people who are lost. These Europeans are not normal, they don’t listen," the president underlined, as cited by local media. "
[The Western countries] don't listen, they don't respect other people's views and they want to force it on others. We shall not agree."
On 1 March, 2023 the Ugandan parliament granted
. This
prescribes
ten years of imprisonment for persons who will be found guilty of homosexuality and persons who attempt to commit homosexuality.
It is the latest peak of an anti-gay campaign in the country, which seems much more intense than previous episodes. The law had been widely condemned by Western countries.
In November 2022, the Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan parliament
at the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific States)-EU joint parliamentary assembly. The Deputy Speaker expressed his concerns about what he considered the
persistent calls by the EU to adopt homosexuality, and how
this could not be seen as a human rights issue.
The Ugandan government has
flatly rejected Western aid in some instances, and refused to honour its part in the co-financing of development projects financed by the West. Anita Among, the
: "We want to appreciate our promoters of homosexuality for the socio-economic development they have brought to the country, ...but we don't appreciate the money that they are bringing to destroy our culture.
We don't need their money; we need our cultures."
