1700 derailments a year? What the actual fuck? Has the FBI looked into the company that repairs and replaces all the damaged and destroyed rolling-stock from all these derailments? Because I can see 1700 motives per year for them to want to actively sabotage US rail infrastructure.
You mean the class I railways? Why would the FBI investigate them? After all, there is no law stopping company from making the profit number go up. Also what's there to investigate when they are practically sabotaging themselves? After all, the whole point of Presicision Scheduled Railroading (which, despite the name, is neither precise, nor scheduled, and it's not really railroading) is to cram as much sh*t onto as little infrastructures as possible.

I don't know if you know or remember about the railroad worker that almost happened a few months ago, but the class Is do not care about anything other than quarterly profit. It's basically that meme with Lord Farquaad, where the infrastructures might be falling apart and the workers are made to work arbitrary hours, but that's a sacrifice the people owning the class Is (aka various financial institutions) are willing to make.

Last I heard about that saga, she was on unemployment benefits in China cuz ppl recognized her from her work with the US government and didn't want anything to do with her.

Well, at least now she can have the last laugh. She might be poor and unemployed, but at least she's breathing the air of freedom in China rather than choking on the fumes in America.

She briefly had a job in South Korea but COVID happened.

Another aspect is that besides with artillery, modern forces are not geared to burn down large areas of infrastructure. So US might be able to burn Taiwan province if they enlist the help of Beijing to turn it into a massive war zone, but damaging any major mainland city is almost out of the question.
This misplaced assumption. Airpower is primary means of city destruction. when you look at statements of Gen Tommy R Frank this only way of fight war. precise, overwhelming and flexible. artillery is most inefficient way of fight war. you need more manpower to transport the shells much further closer to battlefield. keep people in the field in harsh condition where they can easily exhaust and sick.
Coastal cities such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tianjin have relative to US bases about the same strategic depth as Lviv or Kiev has relative to Russian bases.
Lviv and Kiev dont have strategic depth when missile launch from Belarus. It is just Russian choose to send most of missiles on longer route. they may have reason other than hitting the target. It is a show to the people.
infact i havent seen any SAM able to intercept missile in between tall structures. a sam work in the field may not work in city structures.

Honestly, I would like this lady right here to tell us how the air in Ohio, USA feels like right now:

It’s safe to breathe. Take a vacation down in Ohio. The luxury hospitals are to die for.

Biden admin insists Ohio air is safe after chemical explosion sparks fears

Ohio governor urges resident to evacuate over fears of 'catastrophic' blast from train derailment.
The Biden administration and state officials are reassuring residents in eastern Ohio that the air is safe to breathe after conducting a controlled release of toxic chemicals.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) along with Govs. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, and Josh Shapiro, D-Penn., said the air quality had been sampled multiple times in the region and found to be below levels of concern.
