The U.S. thinks it's a high-altitude balloon from China that entered domestic airspace a few days ago, according to a senior defense official. This is not the first time a surveillance balloon has come into domestic airspace. It is appearing to "hangout for a longer period" than in previous instances, the senior defense official said. The balloon drifted into the US ADIZ from outside and then floated over Canada into CONUS.

High-altitude balloons might not be as sexy as autonomous weapons or hypersonics but they have the potential to be just as revolutionary for warfare, if not more so

I believe China doesn't trust NK deep down, and vice versa. I remember reading that Kim's grandpa told Kim's dad not to trust the CPC on his deathbed.
Trust is one thing, survival is another, without China, NK will not survive, 90% of their trade is with China, so if China is defeated, those gravy train will stop and they will be next in the chopping block, so is an existential matter for NK to ensure that China win the conflict on taiwan strait.
i would argue that sk and japan deep down don't trust the americans either, they know that the americans are just going to use them as a missile magnets to absorb China missile strikes, but being vassals with americans bases and troops they have no choice

Thank God for that see see pee looking immigrant (Korean-American but is Chinese to most casual Americans ) to rationally explain the potential of that See See Pee balloon to the Americans who were quite dismissive as to be expected due to their supreme arrogance and dismissive to anything Chinese tech, in this case "alleged" Chinese spy balloon.

They should be Chinese vassals instead. They gain nothing but problems from the Americans. By being Chinese vassals, they gain more from trade, and the yankees dare not bomb them.

Right on cue, the stenographers, and pravda propagandist are now reporting the See See Pee Spy balloon (which will drum up outrage amongst the easily triggered Karens and Kens) called the American people. The American people/society is being social engineered/mentally prepared by their government, the MIC for a war with China.

About Me

That’s me on the Greenland Ice Cap.
Hi there! I’m Dan Satterfield,

I’ve worked as a forecast meteorologist for over 40 years and am the Chief Meteorologist for the CBS affiliate WBOC TV in Salisbury, Maryland. I’m a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Meteorology (Atmospheric Physics) and have a Masters in Earth Science. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but my favourite place on Earth (Other than the polar regions) is London. (Huge Doctor Who fan!)

Music: Beatles, Classical, and I even like a few pieces of Opera. (Though that might be illegal for an Okie to freely admit.)

Sport: Cricket and football. Not that football, REAL football I root for Liverpool FC.

Books: All of them, especially Dickens, Sagan, and Richard Feynman.

Fave movie: Key Largo: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, and a Cat 5 hurricane. You can’t go wrong with a cast like that!

My main hobby is photography, and I live in a place with plenty of opportunities for landscape pictures and this is an amazing area for birds. I have definitely been bitten by the desire to become a birder.

I love meeting people, and believe deeply that different cultures make our small spinning fragment of solar driftwood an endless source of fascination. A trip to another country is always in the planning stages and my last one was to Chile to see my second total solar eclipse last July. will go back in December of 2020 to see another total eclipse and am planning a trip to the Faroe Islands as well as Iceland.

Forecasting weather is my job, but all of Earth Science is my passion. This journal is where I write about things I have too little time for on-air. I try and write it for Junior High level and up. This blog is metric (like the rest of the world and all of Science), and almost everything I write about has to with Earth Science. Peer reviewed science, not the junk science that seems so pervasive on the net.

My career in TV began in Oklahoma City in 1980, and I’ve worked in Tulsa,, Orlando, Birmingham and Huntsville AL. We now live in Salisbury, MD on the beautiful Delmarva Peninsula, with it’s challenging and fun weather! I’m a full member of the American Meteorological Society, and hold the AMS CBM seal as well as being the past chairman of the AMS Station Science Committee. I’m also a member of the International Asoc. of Broadcast Meteorologists (IABM). In 2020 I was honored to be named a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society.

Getting students of all ages interested in science is very important to me. I also teach an introductory course on weather and climate at Salisbury University.

Many pictures on this site are from two weeks I spent on a Russian vessel in the High Arctic of Canada and Northern Greenland, in August of 2007. Climate change is very visible in the Arctic.

One of the reasons I started writing this blog, is the huge amount of disinformation online about real science and especially climate change. In spite of what you may have heard, scientists are no longer debating whether the Earth is warming, or if humans are causing it.

The definitive answer to both questions is settled. It’s yes.

In January 2010 I was a guest of the National Science Foundation on a tour of the Science underway in Antarctica. On Monday, January 11th, I became one of only about 5 thousand humans to have ever stood at the South Pole. Seven months later, I found myself on top of the Greenland ice sheet where scientists were recovering an ice core that will give us climate information back 130,000 years!

What we do as a people about climate change is a political question. The reality of the problem is a scientific one. I will stick with science here and steer away from politics.

If you are a teacher needing information, do not hesitate to email me. I may not know the answer, but I probably know someone

How could China provide a counter narrative during the preceding years when it was busy trying to lift, improve it's own people and country from the isolation that Western countries including then Soviet Union (then two superpowers) imposed against her? Then Chinese leaders had to be pragmatic and less ideological to gain foothold and control it's destiny because it learned throughout it's long history that economic power married with hard power can ensure stability and peace for it's people and the world for that matter.

I mean, when did One Road, One Belt (BRI) came to fruition? it was not until 2012-2013 introduced by GenSec Xi Jinping (the ground work was already undertaken by GenSec Hu Jintao) when China's economic rise could no longer be hidden in plain sight. We're talking what just a decade ago? while the American all society propaganda in countries like the Philippines has been ongoing since the country was bought and paid for the by the U.S. for $20 Million to Spain at the conclusion of the American-Spanish War of 1895 if my date is correct. If we do the math that's 128 years and that's over a century of total influence.

Therefore, we can't and should not expect the countries like the Philippines to just fully embrace China like it's long lost brother/older brother when the foundational/structural friendship isn't that strong. The PRC-Philippines diplomatic recognition only happened back in 1978 which is less than 50 years old and during that time the Chinese influence to the Philippines in terms of economic trade, technology, political etc...was almost non-existent or anemic.

Some of us can feel frustrated or feel annoyed of the actions made by the current administration citing a sense of betrayal when the Philippines is simply acting on it's own self-interest and is acting out of loyalty to their former colonizer, the U.S. whom they felt strong allegiance with because of the sacrifices it made during the occupation and invasion by Imperial Japan. When did China shed blood for the Filipinos? Only historians, or history nut understands the context and reality of why Japan had to invade and attack the Philippines which was for military and strategic reasons since the Philippines was used/colonial post of the U.S.

China does not need to be baited nor it's required to lash out against the Philippines because that would simply fall into the desired outcome American strategists wish and is looking forward with glee to happen. China must respect and understand the dilemma countries like the Philippines faces when dealing with America. I mean if countries in Europe that are far more developed economically, societally, like Germany, France can bend the knee to the U.S. what chances do smaller countries with meagre military strength and developing economies like the Philippines can do against the U.S. might?

This is not what I'm talking about.

I am only talking about what has China done to fight against the brainwashing.

They had an excuse to do nothing when they were underdeveloped, but since the mid 2000's, there have been enough funds to do something.

As for the 128 years. This is sounds powerful on paper but in reality, brainwashing only works when there's no contradicting information. This is why the West fights so hard to silence whistleblowers and censor contradictory information. You can go to Asian activist communities like reddit's AznIdentity to see Asians get unbrainwashed in a matter of days to weeks after decades of being brainwashed..

China cannot unbrainwash everyone but even 5-10% of people waking up is enough to make any place a nightmare to control for the us empire. Caucasian American child rapists, sex predators, genocidal wars, war crimes, systemic racism, racist hate crimes, racial oppression/discrimination in every aspect of western life, colossal theft, putting Filipinos in human zoos, etc. The amount of dirt is endless

My point is simple. If the Philippines (or any nation China is trying to influence) is still largely pro-western, it's because our information warfare is extremely lacking.

Before someone inevitably writes a pointless rant about hard power/censorship...if some reddit community run by a handful of people can wake up hundreds of thousands of Asians with no funding or man power then China with its colossal resources has no excuse.

Have you lived outside of your own bubble? I know you live within continental America and is well-read enough or aware enough to know the b.s. and lies American propaganda has been telling it's own people and to the rest of the world. You ought to experience living in other countries to see, feel, imagine from their perspective to even have a sense of appreciation and difficulty what you are very quick to provide some sort of simple solution for i.e. Chinese soft shit power.

I lived in the Philippines for over a decade and still in contact with people in that country and their Fil community in Canada on top of the historical books, magazine articles I read and continue to read on many geopolitical issues.

Your point in your mind is simple but reality is not as simple as you want it to be that's just a fact.

Please tell me why? Who's the number one customer/buyer of Iphones in the world for Iphones after the U.S. and EU consumers? is it China or India? China or Vietnam? come on dude...You make it sound like China has to beg companies like Iphone to do business with China when the size of it's market is what dictates these companies action because they want that piece of Chinese pie= $$$

He acts like iPhones are out of stock because China isn’t making enough when in reality phone demand has been weaker alongside a stronger dollar for a good chuck of the year (which cook said had a 5% impact on foreign rates). Not to mention that Mac sales have also declined.
