Britain must cut energy usage by 15pc to defeat Vladimir Putin, Jeremy Hunt has said as the country scrambles to head off potential disruption this winter.
But... but... I thought the UK did not import any significant amounts of Russian energy? Hah.

It came as the electricity operator EDF delayed the reopening of three French nuclear power stations, triggering concerns that Britain could struggle to import energy from across the Channel on days when domestic supply runs short.
Maybe you should have gotten the Chinese to build Hikley Point C then. Instead of dragging your feet on approving the deal, only letting the Chinese fund it, and now not even wanting them to fund it. Originally it was supposed to be Chinese builders with a French EPR design. Since the Chinese were the ones building the first EPRs and they have more recent experience in building nuclear reactors. But whatever.

EDF on Wednesday delayed the restart of three French nuclear reactors, threatening UK electricity imports as cold weather looms.
The stations were due to come online by the end of this week but will now not be feeding into France’s power grid until December 1-9.
Had the Russians cut uranium fuel exports half the French reactors would go offline anyway. The UK is lucky Russia is not sanctioning Europe the way Europe did to them. When Europe cut parts supply to gas turbine and diesel engines in Russia, they were trying to impact pipelines and gas fired power stations, that is what they did to Russia. They were also gloating expecting Russia to run out of diesel when they stopped supplies of catalyst material to refine diesel. Thankfully Russia managed to substitute with their own. They were expecting this to happen for years.
The Russian government spent 8 whole years funding import substitution programs in every sector.

“While mitigation measures have reduced the likelihood of blackouts, as the temperature drops we are tightening the UK’s margins, and this will be worsened if the French nuclear fleet is even slower to come back online.”
No shit. Good luck when winter comes sucker.

The chief executive of Vitol, the world’s largest independent energy trader, warned that the energy crisis will deepen next year as countries race to fill the hole left by the withdrawal of Russian gas. He said: “It’s an absolutely awful thing for European business and that’s the genesis of the recession.”
No kidding.

Rolls-Royce on Wednesday said it had urged the UK government to enter negotiations over the funding for building its small nuclear reactors, while Rishi Sunak, the prime minister, is facing a rebellion from MPs over severe restrictions on onshore wind.
Rolls-Royce has been trying to fund this SMR program for a long time. They basically make the UK nuclear reactors in the submarines. So it is basically that technology on land. But SMRs will not solve the vast energy gap. For that you need GW class reactors.

Negotiating with EU anything is a waste of time, thinking it leads to anything is akin to thinking that Norwegian president of NATO gets to decide defense strategy. Michel should be sent packing with an anal covid test as a gift so he can go fuck himself.
How many divisions, how many squadrons, and how many fleets, does Mr.Michel command?

He can talk with his true counterpart, Premier Li
