Right on. My biggest beef with Xi is succession. One of the biggest mistake and the weakest link in Mao's rein is succession. So with no surprise, I believe Deng's biggest contribution to the Chinese governance mandarin system is that he has established a functioning succession mechanism within the party. But Xi has broken that without any replacement. As we all know, succession is full of bloody drama throughout the Chinese history. I can understand Xi wants to clean the house. But succession shall be his top-3 tasks in the next 5 years.

In a larger context, Xi has actually accomplished much in educating and nurturing cadre, through his poverty alleviation plan, which has also served as his talent pool or bull pen. I heard a lot of stories that many performers in the poverty alleviation program got promoted. It becomes clear to me that Xi likes to promote people from two types: (1) poverty alleviation program and (2) space industry, outside his own base in Zhe Jiang or Fu Jian or Shanghai.

Agree !!!! And from among this cadre he may choose his replacement, We may see it in the next congress. :)

Russia trade balance was $257B positive in first 10 months. this despite tremendous slow down in trade with its main trade partner EU and increase in expensive official/ unofficial imports with huge manpower already consumed in infrastructure development to make trade away from EU. one of head of tactical missile corporation made statement that he had double the staff and 4 fold increase in production all the way up to 2025. All this events take skill labor away from normal activity of exportable surplus. only Russia had scientific and economic strength to make this happen.

I used to go to Korea fairly often for business, even back around 2013 to 2015, it was clear their education system wasn't evolving and massive amounts of university graduates ended up working in coffee and fried chicken joints which were found on every city block.

Their thinking was to produce as many university graduates as possible, but their chaebols couldn't absorb them all, especially when Samsung, LG etc. were hiring more in Asia, Europe and US, and less in Korea as they expanded internationally. Tough job competition then led to uber competition at the high school tutoring level.

Ironic, Southern Korea are so education focused, but the global rankings of their SK universities lags behind China, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Japan may host Australian nuclear subs – envoy​

Australia’s acquisition of nuclear submarines is critically important for regional security and Japan is ready to offer its expertise and facilities, ambassador Shingo Yamagami told the ‘Advancing AUKUS’ conference on Monday, calling Canberra Tokyo’s most important military ally, besides the United States.

While not directly calling China a threat, the envoy said Japan was “a frontline state facing challenging circumstances in the dangerous neighborhood of Southeast Asia,” explaining to the audience at the National Press Club in Canberra why “AUKUS matters to us a lot.”

Back in 2021, the US, Australia, and UK announced the creation of the so-called AUKUS security pact, which envisages providing Canberra with conventionally armed and nuclear-powered submarines, thus significantly boosting its naval capabilities.

Last month, Australia signed a separate agreement with Japan to deepen their security cooperation, including joint military training and intelligence sharing. “This makes Australia Japan's most important defense and security alliance... outside of the United States,” ambassador Yamagami said.
