Western discourse on China was steadily worsening in quality for years now (not that it was ever high to begin with), but it has thoroughly plunged into the sewers these last few months. Many have completely bought into the Cold War rhetoric, if not the orientalism and racism that comes with it that some have further sunk to. It's much more obvious these days as right wing politics gain more power while more moderate elements are defanged. These last few years have made me feel rather jaded and bitter when it comes to both the sheer ignorance and antipathy on display by many in the West.
