Can confirm, even land borders to countries like Kazakhstan, Mongolia, etc. are crowded.

The partial mobilization is also disproportionately affecting the minority regions like Tuva, Buryatia, etc. because even people with zero combat experience are being taken. There is a huge level of outrage in local chats, far more than during the beginning of the war, even some of the "Z" guys are chickening out and removing their pics. Ethnic nationalism is also rising because minorities are getting tired of being blamed by both Russian libs & putinists, disproportionately drawn to the frontline, etc. plus posts by Russian racists are adding fuel to the fire. Perfect soil for the US psy-ops.

Putin will need to show some significant achievements to reduce the tensions.
Do you have any source for this? And Z guys removing their pics as well as the ethnic nationalism? Would be interested to read.

China will never support it. It doesn’t support Donetsk independence for the same reason.
Scotland independence is different from Donetsk. Scotland independence is like USSR constitution allows secession of member states.

No, China shouldn’t say anything. Besides the Taiwan issue, it’s a mistake to back any independences because you are just playing right into there hands by giving them an excuse to crush it. They already oppose it now. What do you think they will do if China says they will support it?
Scotland is different from Taiwan. Taiwan independence is legally prohibited by constitutions of both ROC and PRC. Scotland's attempt of independence is within British legal framework.

While I agree that China should not be overtly promoting any independence or breakup of any country, but that stance won't prevent any enemy states to get involved in Taiwan. On the contrary, covertly supporting and flirting with separates in enemy states do give China a leverage in keeping enemies think twice. China has done similar things before (supporting revolution in 3rd world) when the temperature was high. So if things get worse, there is no reason for China to remain the only nice guy.

If USA and Japan claims Taiwan Island through proxy war, they inherently reject the post ww2 order and the Potsdam declaration that established Taiwan as Chinese territory.

China should make it clear that attempts to invade will not simply end with invaders expelled from China only, it will lead to territorial losses or even total occupation for the invader nations, in particular Imperial Japan.

Another Twitter fake has been debunked.

Putin's speech prompted misleading rumours that some Russians had joined lengthy queues at Finland’s southeastern border on Wednesday night, hoping to leave the country. Euronews has fact-checked the claims.

A number of images and videos were shared online, showing long lines of stationary traffic at Finland's border.

Some users falsely claimed that the queues and traffic jams were as long as 35 kilometres and were “rising by the hour”.

One such video of the Vaalimaa border post in southeastern Finland gathered more than 2.5 million views on Twitter.

However, an online investigation reveals the footage was first shared online on 19 September, two days before Putin's mobilisation call.

The owner of the video, who posted the clip on both YouTube and TikTok, also states that it was filmed “two weeks earlier” at the end of August and that the congestion was "normal" for autumn border crossings.

His claims have also been supported by the Finnish Border Guard Service.

"There is normal queuing in border traffic," said Matti Pitkäniitty, the head of the International Affairs Unit at the Finnish Border Guard.

"The situation at [the] Finnish-Russian land border remains normal," he wrote on Twitter.

The regional border service added that queues on Wednesday at the border inspection were only "250 metres" long, and certainly not 35 kilometres.

"[The] situation at Finland's borders has not changed with the announcement of Russian mobilisation," the Border Guard service added on Twitter.

"There are videos circulating on social media, at least some of which have already been filmed before and now taken out of context. There is incorrect information in circulation."

The false rumours of kilometre-long queues were also debunked online by Ville Cantell, a director at Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The irony is more and more Americans think college degrees are scams due to student debt and lack of high paying job available after graduation. It’s going to be harder now to get people to pursue higher education with people’s savings drying up due to inflation and college getting less and less tuition from foreign students. Also doesn’t help when STEM is atrociously underperforming because to non-Asians because “math is hard” and the best and brightest tend to go to business and finance because you can easily “get rich and retire early.” The mentality and work culture simply isn’t there for it and it won’t change anytime soon with the current generation. Millennials and Gen Z are too soft, weak and indoctrinated to make the dramatic changes necessary…perhaps Gen Alpha will be able to as they are still in their formative years.
I did illustrate some of the problems with the American higher education system in a previous post
1. Liberal arts degrees are generally scams
2. Private institutions running wild

You raise another point that I've seen come up here before as well. The best and brightest going into business instead of Science. Actually this also applies to STEM grads themselves. I know of 3 people who went to MIT and all end up in business related fields. 1 of them went back to researching only because he made so much money, but the research is just a hobby now, not serious.

I don't think being too soft is the issue, people's attitudes can change if they want. I just think the direction of America is not really heading in a good way.

Leaving it only to Chinese scientists (because that is what the article was focused on), a few factors are immediately obvious

1. Increasing discrimination and restrictions on freedom. America prides itself on being the "land of the free", yet since 2000 (when Wen Ho Lee was arrested and career ruined), rather than learn a lesson, America LEO has doubled down on cracking down on ethnic Chinese scientists. In China, you know what kind of politics and speech to stay away from, but the Law Enforcement in America is going as far as using your visits to friends and family against you.

2. Rising quality of life in China. This one is easy. Even though in the 90's and 00's there was a big increase in quality of life in China, it was still not quite at western levels. Today, you can live on par with the USA in terms of food, goods, cars, etc. Your living space will probably still be smaller though.

3. (Perceptions of?) Rising violence and homelessness. 6/10 worst mass shooting incidents have occurred in the last ten years. Many of them at schools. This isn't really the kind of environment that a scientist (or anyone) wants for their family.

. I think these answer your questions.

As for air travel, go to aviasales.ru (largest aggregator of air tickets in Russia) and try to search e.g. Moscow - Erevan for the rest of September. They are either sold out or cost like x10 of usual price.

We already know that the "Finnish border story" is a fake, see here Breaking & World News! III NO DISCUSSION!!
I won't waste one more minute on investigating or believing others.

We Chinese have the saying "造谣一张嘴,辟谣跑断腿". Debunking one lie is enough for ignoring the others. Guess who taught Chinese this lesson? The same people who is talking about Russians right now.
