There is some unfortunate truth to what she said. Some of the biggest slave merchants were kings and businessmen from Africa, especially those from West African nations. They were complicit and sold their own people for profit.
There were African businessmen that rounded up slaves for white merchants, they were those that acted as middlemen, and those that loaded and offloaded and supplied European ships with food and provisions. They negotiated prices for salves from the hinterlands, and collected royalties from both buyers and sellers.
Their legacy is just as dirty as the British.
