The author seems to be giving too much credit to sanctions and completely ignoring the increased competition from other Chinese competitors. Around 2014 the only smartphone brand from China people would be able to name was Huawei. Around 2018-19 Xiaomi started getting noticed. Nowadays there's Oppo, Poco, VIVO, Oneplus, couple of months back I switched from my old Huawei to Realme...
