This feels like the feint to direct western attention to a relatively unimportant part of the world where China’s real focus is elsewhere. I would watch out major unexpected developments elsewhere.
Chinese strategy has been multipronged attack just like Russians, but unlike Russians, each front is designed such that if left unchecked it would bring about a decisive collapse in enemy lines.

If they don't check the Pacific, then China gets hydrophone and short range radar monitoring stations east of Guam for high resolution tracking. But simultaneously there's fronts being opened in the middle east and the open front in Europe with Russia. Losing any one of those is devastating too, to petrodollar or NATO credibility.

They can't lose any of this.

Beijing has been accused of risking a new “Cold War” with the West after it emerged that China’s foreign minister is pursuing a regional deal with almost a dozen Pacific islands including heightened security cooperation.
Yes, we should listen from the friendly West

It's been a fun few days in NATO land. As well as Turkey refusing to allow Sweden and Finland to join NATO without the whole of NATO agreeing to their unrealistic demands, now Greece has joined in the fun. They've threatened to block the upgraded F-16s that Turkey have asked for, and for maximum troll points, are asking to join the F-35 programme. It would be hilarious if Greece had F-35s in 10 years and not Turkey. Greece will only bankrupt themselves further and thanks to DRM they would be useless in any conflict with Turkey, but they know how to piss off Turkey.

All the Anglos are angry, demanding Turkey be kicked out of NATO. The trouble is, Turkey is one of the most important countries in NATO. Not because of their military, but because of the straits and the nuclear launch bases. You lose those and you'll have a hard time finding another country to put them in. If the NATO plan is to start a nuclear war with Russia (which Sweden and Finland joining will lead to) losing one of your most important launch sites is a bad start.

It looks like I was wrong and Putin was 100% vindicated to not antagonise Turkey. Just leave them alone long enough and they'll backstab their allies and create the mess that is now unfolding.

And this is before we hear the demands all the other irrelevant countries are making behind the scenes, like Poland, Macedonia, Albania, etc.

Most powerful alliance in history :D

PLA holds 2nd large-scale drills around Taiwan this month after Biden claims to 'defend' island
With geographical weaknesses, the isolated island of Taiwan can never become a US proxy in a protracted war like that in Ukraine, experts said, noting that with more drills, the PLA's combat plans are becoming more mature.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Wednesday announced a second large-scale military exercise around the island of Taiwan this month

The drills around Taiwan aimed at collusion between the US and Taiwan secessionists, and were necessary actions taken to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Defense Ministry spokesperson, Senior Colonel Tan Kefei on Wednesday.

The PLA is all set to await the order for battle, and will take all necessary measures to resolutely thwart interference by external forces and "Taiwan independence" forces' secession attempts, Tan said. (Defense Ministry spokesperson, Senior Colonel Tan Kefei)

Since the joint maritime and aerial drills featured multiple military services and branches, they were likely participated in by the Navy, the Air Force and the Rocket Force of the PLA, and possibly also the Army if amphibious assaults were part of the exercises, a Chinese mainland military expert who requested anonymity told the Global Times on Wednesday.
