North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a message to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday to congratulate China on the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, highlighting the "invincible strategic relations" between the two countries, Pyongyang's state media reported.
"The successful opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics despite the worldwide health crisis and unprecedented severe circumstances is another great victory won by socialist China," Kim said in the message

Written for a foreign audience.

If Japan was in the same situation, an international tournament with lots of foreign visitors from high risk areas (US, Europe) they would be doing the exact same thing. In fact, that's what they did. I tried searching for information on hotels during the 2021 Olympics and what PPE their staff wore, but couldn't find any.

There were a few blogs from western athletes who wrote about their treatment during the Olympics.

Then there were the protests by locals who didn't want foreigners coming:

Not to mention the "Japanese only elevators"

Sounds far more draconian than a bartender wearing PPE that he probably wants to wear.

U.S. warns Chinese firms against helping Russia against potential Ukraine sanctions

"We have an array of tools that we can deploy if we see foreign companies, including those in China, doing their best to backfill U.S. export control actions, to evade them, to get around them," Price told a regular news briefing

So now the US is threatening to sanction Chinese companies if they avoid US sanctions over Russia.

Only issue is. I don’t believe the US will use this as intended and nor would they not expand it.

I think if China doesn’t retaliate when they start attacking Chinese companies then they may demand China ban the import of Russia Energy. Probably will sanction the Power of Siberia 1 & 2 pipeline.

I also think that they will use this as an excuse to curb Chinese competition against US companies until the gist of “avoiding US sanctions.”
