There are a couple of Zio sympathizers, here, that won’t be happy with this post. Every time I mention Iran as a potential strategic partner, they claim that nobody wants to have anything to do with Iran!
Is anyone here really against Iran?
At most, China should balance relations with all ME countries.
But relations with Iran should definetely be strengthened.

However, a nuclear deal must be done first before any serious investment happens

I’d go back and quote their posts, if I gave them any credibility!

All allies and friends are unstable and unreliable. Its law is like a sinusoid. When you reach the top, next you will go down. It partly explains the reason for the brotherly / ally relationship: The Soviet Union, Vietnam and Albania became hostile to China and its influence remains to this day. China needs to have good relations with the rest of the world but cannot be too good because it has the opposite effect.

It is interesting to note that Israel and Saudi Arabia are the two countries that give China the most benefits, not Iran. Israel has sold uavs, air-to-air missiles (with TOT), and provided technical assistance to China during the development of the J-10. Saudi Arabia is China's major economic partner in the Middle East, and is also one of the countries that have supported China as the United States and its allies use the Uighur issue to attack China.

China needs to avoid making statements and actions affecting relations with those two countries. Too close to iran is not good for china. If buying oil from Iran is more beneficial to China than buying oil from Russia and KSA then this transaction should be encouraged. But bringing advanced weapons to Iran or support and transfer of advanced technologies is absolutely no

All international relations are transactional!

Thus, the privileging of KSA and Israel, which are two principal assets of the US empire, with insignificant populations/consumer markets demonstrates an immature political/economic strategy, going-forth, particularly as relates to BRI. Thus, China is not negotiating any long-term partnerships with either of these as it is with Iran.

Does anyone, here, really believe that either KSA or Israel will participate, willingly, in the de-petro-dollarization of the global economy or the diminution of the global influence of the US MIC, to which they owe their very existence?

Either one plays by the rules of the hegemon and remains a cautious vassal, or one challenges hegemony and becomes an independent sovereign!

Defying U.S., China and Iran Near Trade and Military Partnership

The investment and security pact would vastly extend China’s influence in the Middle East, throwing Iran an economic lifeline and creating new flash points with the United States.

So, there: question the decision of the Chinese leadership, since my opinion is questionable!

Obviously China follows a balanced ME diplomatic strategy

As for concerns about Iran, don't forget that China has repeatedly emphasized (also in the recent meeting) that in Middle East, it first considers Saudi Arabia before anyone else.

That's a big statement which shows who China really values.
And don't forget the missile program which it has been helping SA to build

Look beyond all the PR and you will see who China really values for its interests

On the other hand, Iran is a natural "friend" (with interests..) of China against the US. I am sure that in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries there are intense discussions on what to do for this. They might have to get even closer to China in order to prevent China from getting too close with Iran

Complex games, complex geopolitics. For China there are no real friends in the world except a few countries who have historically demonstrated repeatedly that they are all-weather friends with China.
