the lack of self awareness...
As they say one man's hero is and another man's villain. When someone just thinks in black and white it's because they're talking to dummies. One doesn't want to be evil so they have do what good wants. Who says they're the good guys that get to define it? History doesn't say so. They were the ones that raped and colonized the world. The Western world raped China. China never invaded them. So who's the good and bad guys. Did they get punished for it? Did they pay reparations? No on both counts but instead they anoint themselves champions of human rights because then they get to define what it means and of course they're the good guys while all the countries that haven't been conquered by the West and don't trust them are the bad guys. How convenient.

Chinese anime/manhua will succeed where certain other countries that try to replicate Japan failed. Just look at Genshin Impact where there's so many unapologetically Chinese names and themes.
Having interacted with the fandom, the majority treat the game like it’s from Japan. Heck the name‘s Japanese too. I feel like the game ironically helps Japan’s soft power more than China’s since any controversy within the game always invites racism against Chinese culture instead of criticizing the scummy devs.

It's only treated as Japanese in the west though, in Japan itself and Korea/SEA it is marketed as 原神.

True, but the Chinese character in Japanese is also the same but called ‘Genshin’ instead of ’Yuanshen’ and I feel like the Western market matters more for soft power since literally the most popular voice acting to use in game is Japanese, followed by English instead of Chinese.

My hope is Chinese devs be more confident about themselves instead of hiding behind Japan.

I think King's Avatar is a good example of a program (rather than game) that is unapologetically Chinese in both style and theme. For example, e-sports is 100% unknown in Japan but thriving in China.

I think in terms of gaming, I actually like the western style games more than the Japanese anime games.

For example 暗黑森林 (Dark Forest)is a really good Stellaris/Sins of a Solar Empire style space RTS/4X that deserves alot more recognition.

"Dyson Sphere Program" is also an awesome scifi game.
