Even without expansion into Thailand, this railway is already a major boost for agriculture export for the North Eastern region of Thailand which is close to Vientiane. It is a very short drive across the Mekong river to get there from Thailand. This is also a boost for inner provinces like Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, as goods can be transported more directly.
That would be a threat to China's lithium supply from aussies.
america can always play into australia insecurity and FOBA (fear of being abandoned) of being the only anglo country in asia, they can charge whatever they feel like, if the us demand australia to pay $1B per missiles/tank/jets, it would gladly pays lol
China needs the lithium for batteries.
