But what's going to happen to the winter Olympic games? sarcasm..

I am of the opinion sometimes that Chinese leadership are in a way more measured, half-hearted in some ways in terms of pushing the issue of Taiwan in a much firmer fashion. It can't, won't, or hesitates to point out that America is as of this moment sent its spy plane close to China's periphery trying to observe the current PLA naval exercise.

No mention whatsoever, that sometimes I feel and think that China relishes being put in a defensive when it comes to defending herself even when China is most obviously correct but because it doesn't want to shake the confidence of the market and the economy it practically looks like it staples it's lips. Which leads me to think sometimes that China is so afraid to cause economic hardships for her people leading to a possible revolt from the masses that making such overt war like pronouncements are often best avoided. Which has a negative effect against China in the public perception and almost telegraphing to it's arch nemesis, the U.S. it's eternal weakness. In my idiotic opinion, the Chinese leadership is more interested in making money and getting rich than protecting the integrity, sanctity of what the previous generations of CPC leadership fought and died for. I see them acting more like the Song and the later day Qing when it comes to placating the interests of the moneyed interests compared to the national interests of the country and it's historical legacy. If China was under a democratic system such idiotic maneuverings by these Americans will not be tolerated and war would have probably and most likely happened already. And the government would not be this dilettante or cowardly in the face of ongoing America insults and onslaught.

These are some of the things that my mind think from time to time when reading news like the ones above. I am obviously waay off base in everything I said but I must admit that my desire to see China shut the American traps supercedes my ability of trying to look at the current geopolitical tug of war on a more emotional lense.
I shared this view all the way up from the huawei debacle.

You know that Chinese civil war was not only fought in mainland China but also divided oversea Chinese population into pro-CPC and pro-KMT camps? Prior to 1980s, how many oversea Chinese actually accept PRC as their government instead of an illegitimate rebel group? I guess lots of them took KMT in Taiwan as China and expect protection from ROC, rejecting PRC's help was pretty logical for them.

What they did not know is that the later anti-Communist coup by Suharto expanded to be an anti-Chinese killing because lots of Indonesian communists were ethnic Chinese, and natives just wanted to take that advantage. By this time it is too late for help from PRC, while their own legitimate "country" ROC never came to help. Remember ROC accept dual citizenship, any ethnic Chinese in Indonesia who did not pick up PRC offer is legally ROC citizen if they didn't renounce it.
Your explanation is one of the major causes! This matter is considered a classic issue often raised by some Chinese descents complained that mainland China could not help or even so helpless amidst the mass killings etc during the intense Cold War era... those folks could not understand the actual conditions of China at that time, and its strength relative to the adversaries esp. the nonexistent Chinese naval force back then.

But an even much more significant explanation concerning those periods is China was still WEAK AND POOR. Being WEAK & POOR with very limited resources incl. the available ships explained lots of things. Expecting a poor and weak nation to come over to overseas to help... well, there were some, but of course the efforts were naturally limited. WEAK & POOR explained everything! If any one wanna blame, blame it to the "Century of Humiliation", blame it why the minority ruler of Qing dynasty were not blind to ignore rejuvenation and industrialization thus became so weak and easy prey... with very severe consequences carried over centuries later...

One day if China has been operating at least four carrier fleets of class 003 or higher in full combat mode, see if such blatant massacre still happens. Forget not that most of such cases involved the dirty hands of the USA, thus China must always calculate the US strength around. If a nation is still weak and poor, how can it help others in oversea areas???

One particular case like the recent one in Solomon Island, how could one expect China to interfere militarily, or even sent civilian ships to help? It is Solomon govt obligation to provide safety to its people incl those Solomon citizens of Chinese descent; if the legitimate central govt were not capable then asked the UN help then UN Peacekeeping Force can be deployed... that's the right procedure, and in that situation China may help. In Solomon case if it's the central govt that played evil then China might sanction that nation, but the actual case was some internal turmoil between regional actor instigated by foreign power to attack the central govt that wanna be more friendly to China, a gray area domestic affair! China will be bad actor if it ever interferes in such case. Remember, the human rights and safety of citizens and their properties are world's concerns; if country like Solomon can't ensure the safety of its population then capable people and their wealth will relocate; what stay is dependencies and poverty! Anyhow that island nation is too small to be matter... a tiny dot in the world. One suggestion, the Chinese community there must organize themselves to protect their own interests; how can have a Chinatown without some organized power or association to protect itself? At least they can pay a group of mercenary/thugs to protect the venue from the gang violence, organized or not? If they all are too ignorant or selfish then why some blame China for that?
China ain't the Exceptional power that could invade Panama or Granada with impunity... I can't tell about the distant future but for now I am 100% sure of what I think of... whatever one may wish or dream of. Live with reality!

The sole reason Putin gets to be so gangster in Europe is because America wants to keep its focus on China on Asia. Because while Russia is an annoyance, only China is a true threat to the western world order these days.
I am not sure why you think China is threat to Western World? China cannot even impose its will on Asia. Only reason West is in conflict with China is to ensure that Asia obey West. thats why there is Indo Pacific.

When Saudi can sell Oil much higher than bench Mark. what do you think Russia is doing that is not announced.

You are literally comparing apples to oranges here.

The sole reason Putin gets to be so gangster in Europe is because America wants to keep its focus on China on Asia. Because while Russia is an annoyance, only China is a true threat to the western world order these days.

Back during the Cold War, when the USSR was comparatively far stronger than Russia is today compared to NATO, what was NATO’s attitude towards Soviet war threats again? In contrast America was tying one hand behind its own back in Vietnam terrified of drawing China formally into the war if it took the fighting too close to the boarder.

Today the roles are reversed. If China started behaving like Russia, there is almost certainly going to be war with the US. That means China needs to be both certain that whatever it is that is at stake is both worth the cost, and that the Chinese military can actually win the fight.

“I would like Russia to realize there are issues where we can find common ground, such as the China issue,” he explained. “Russia faces the risk of becoming an appendage of China, which I have mentioned many times in talks, including with Russian partners.”

John Bolton

this is a game involves three players, each player knows the other two know that he knows that they know that he knows ... it's a game with perfect information.

Why do you quote Bolton?
The guy is hack who doesn't know anything

That he keeps harping about "finding common ground with Russia on the China issue" shows how big of an idiot he is

Russia-China relations are far more complex and durable than whatever bs Bolton and his lackeys say. "Drive a wedge between Russia and China" lol

So USSR was not a threat to the West because it could not even impose its will on both Europe & Asia? Lol. China is a threat to the West because stronger China = declining influence of the West, the same thing that was present when the USSR was intact. It creates another point of power where the smaller countries can flock, while in a unipolar world you either obey the West or you basically get isolated. Another important thing is that Asia is already the main driver of the world's economic growth and that is going to only accelerate as China moves up the value chains, transitioning parts of the supply chain to SEA\SA.
When Saudi can sell Oil much higher than bench Mark. what do you think Russia is doing that is not announced.
What's the point you are trying to convey? KSA has both greater reserves (far greater, actually) and is a larger exporter of oil than Russia. Let's also not forget that KSA petroleum is probably THE cheapest to exploit (there were studies that indicated that some of the KSA oil fields could still be profitable at the oil prices of like $5 per barrel), while most Russian oil is located in North-West Siberia with a harsh climate and the need to transfer it via pipes in order to sell it to anyone. I don't even get the second link, Russia exports fertilizers and grain to South Korea, so what? India exports tons of food too, so Indians were right and superpower 2020 is the reality?

I know that you are Russia (and Europe) fanboy but why do you think that Russia is a greater threat with a GDP less than South Korea? The US rhetoric and actions indicate that it perceives China as the primary competitor & threat currently, whether you want to admit it or not. This has been the case since Obama's "pivot to Asia".
