When the US spy on you, bomb you, or torture you, they do it YOUR own good. The US had good intentions, so it doesn't count. Good guys. It's an extra level of dehumanization and moral mental gymnastics.

(when China does it, they scream bloody murder and demand regime change. when US or US allies does it, it's just another random Tuesday)

Well. Tom Fowdy perhaps deserved some heat for criticising CGTN and Chinese media, abit too harshly. But his criticism does have a point.

The Chinese media doesn't need to become like India's. But they can follow the Russian example. The Russian media is not 100% free as RT likes to boast about. But they have a way of portraying themselves as 'free'.

The no. 1 problem for the Chinese media is presentation. Their content has far more truths than the Western MSM. But their presentation is quite amaturerish. Making it look quite often like cringeworthy propaganda.

As I've said in a post some time ago. Chinese media lectures the message to their viewers. But the Western media leads their viewers to the message. Hence the Western media looks far more organic, even when they are telling you straight up lies. This is a problem of the production. Not the Chinese propaganda.

CGTN might need to bring in an Editor from a more established media like SCMP. Screen that person and ensure that he/she tows the party line. Then allow the Editor to do his/her work with the production team to come out with more professional level propaganda.

Some might criticise this as hypocritical. But which national news media in the world is ever truly free? They all have a state to serve first.

His criticism of CGTN and China's PR in general was pretty valid. In handling the whole Peng Shuai fiasco for instance, China could have simply released a simple and succinct statement to the effect of "when a high profile person makes a high profile claim against another high profile person, its customary in Chinese society for all parties to shutup and lay low out of public spotlight while an investigation takes place". Had China's media PR been more rhetorically savvy and gone on the offensive with a message similar to that, they would have put an end to the whole fiasco before it even became news.

Today I received my second email from my brother. It was a sad and disturbing letter. Again, he pleaded for me to leave China and return back to the United States “where it will be safe”.

But you know, that is not going to happen. I love China.

I love everything about China, and I have family that I love. I have Chinese friends that I cherish and love dearly. I have homes, businesses, and a lifestyle that I am not going to leave. I love the culture in China. I love the food. I love the work relationships, and I even love stinky tofu.

Once you live in China and see (with your own experiences) how wonderful it is, you will never go back to the cesspool that the United States has become....

I may be wrong but I feel like official Chinese media barely acknowledged the peng shuai affair. Cctv, xinhua, people's daily never covered it. It's mostly relegated to Hu Xijin and global times which westerners view as nationalistic tabloid. That's how much official media think of the affair. It should not be treated like a serious issue of kidnapping or some other bizarre accusation the west concocts that is worth their time.

Hu however isn't trained in western dark arts of PR and spin so I guess he could have improved in this area.

Did your brother really call the US safe especially in the context of comparing it to China? You should invite your brother over sometimes.

Why in the world would anyone from official sources acknowledge this affair? The affair between Peng Shuai and Zhang Gao Li was scandalous at best but not anything illegal. (Peng stated in her statement that at the time she and Zhang were in fact "in love", confirming her consent to the relationship) There's also the high likelihood that Peng actively approached Zhang at his time as Party Secretary of Shandong Province to advance her tennis career. (Peng at the time was only in the Shandong provincial tennis team, speculations were that she would never made it into the national tennis team based on her skills, and the fact that after her approach towards Zhang, she was selected in to the national team)

As for Zhang, he was basically retired after 2016. He currently had no political swaying in anything at all. As long as he was not found illegal in this affair, he would remain retired and secluded.

Speculation was that Peng was possibly pregnant when posting that statement, trying to somehow get Zhang's attention of financially "compensating" her. But yeah, these two's affairs were murky af.

I guess your bro pretty much learns about China from the corporate media in the West... so what to say in today's world whereas Biden administration early this year set aside $300 million fund every year for five years to train journalists on how to write exclusive negative stories about China (

). Just imagine the sum of the money, it's plenty to "train many journalists".

And it is just one particular fund. Then there are many others, like the one for the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the parent organization of VOA, RFA, and so on. Remember also entities like CIA, NED, USAID, etc There are lot of funding to buy the media and the media workers.

So, will you ever let the blind lead your life? I won't! No question!

Funny I used to think the railway link from Kunming to Singapore would be delayed by Laos.

With Malaysia cancelling the high speed with Singapore and Thailand dragging, you really wonder if you understand the world at all.

How stupid can Malaysia be to cancel the high speed rail with Singapore? I heard they were afraid of losing influence to Singapore. Like what? Singapore is 1000 times smaller than Malaysia. It's like Saudi Arabia being afraid of Israel.

The world sometimes...
