Russia is not being aggressive but assertive. The 2014 US coup in Ukraine that ushered in the reign of anti-Russian groups in Kiev and made Ukraine essentially another US vassal state, changed Russia's calculus with or without Putin. It demonstrated beyond the shadow of a doubt that the US was and is a hostile actor towards Russia. The US does not tolerate nations that offer alternatives, that oppose its foreign policy or that refuse to become vassal states. Look at Hong Kong. Another attempt at color revolution to undermine a nation that dares not to become yet another US vassal state. This bad (illegal) behavior on part of the US will continue unless it is confronted and effectively deterred/opposed.

Russia and China are not special to receive this kind of treatment by the US and its vassal states. The US will conduct this type of hybrid warfare against any nation, big or small, that threatens its economic and military domination over the nations of this planet.

Yes I am sure He was the son of Sumitro ex economic minister of Indonesia who had falling out with sukarno because he support Secessionist movement in Menado. He is brilliant economist studying in Leiden where he met his wife a nurse from Minahasa or Menado. Intermarriage between Menado and Chinese is common in Indo because Menadonese are Christian and they look like Chinese since they are proto Malay and highly westernized unlike the rest of Indo like Pilipino. They dance, drink, wear western cloth, love partying

I would understand Ukraine and it was a spectacular success because they were able firmly put Ukraine in the West's orbit to but what was America's end game in Hong Kong? What were they hoping to achieve there?

Just imagine if Russia shall coordinate with China about the timing... Russia makes military move to take Ukraine (the whole or simply the eastern part), then soon followed by China makes move to take back Taiwan Island. About the timing, what both of them deem as the right timing. Two concurrent fronts, see what the Global Cop may react.

Instability first and foremost to undermine China's development and rise. The US could then point at Hong Kong and tell the world that the 1-country-2-systems promise by China had failed. If China countered these moves by the US, the US could just say that China acted aggressively towards "freedom" and "democracy" in Hong Kong. This would not only make China look bad in the eyes of some countries (mostly US vassal states) in the world but it would also embolden separatist forces in Taiwan to potentially move towards independence.

The aim of these color revolutions, coups (of aggression) is to undermine/sabotage their rivals. In case of Ukraine , the target is Russia and in the case of Hong Kong the target is China.
