As oppose to just last week Taiwan said they were more than capable in defending itself after China taunted US abandoning Afghanistan to the Taliban. Oops... they didn't think before speaking mistakenly telling the US, Taiwan doesn't need them and can handle China on their own.

The speech is not in a narrow aspect of armed conflict but covers all aspects for the future in nation building. You can compare it to Deng's call for "opening up and reform" which focused on the economy side and lasted through Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao's era. Xi's speech today is a milestone adjustment that will turn the focus to more balanced manner (economy and politic and culture). You can see the shift in many recent events, sustainable development, cleaning up the entertainment industry and internet personality, strictly disciplining party members, fighting back on the ideological front. This shift is a necessary change regardless outside environment. The outside factors only affect the timing of the shift, but not "whether it happens".
@taxiya @AndrewS @windsclouds2030 bro thanks for the explanation and I support it , it is better to tell the people the current and future trajectory of the relationship with the West not sugar coating it. And perfect timing to as the CCP garner support , the public are well inform due to this pandemic the hate and jealousy they are subjected to.

Anyone from new Zealand here? Look at how they report this Zhao Wei story. Chinese "erasing" celebrity.

View attachment 76779
Here's a take on it from someone with a bit more knowledge.

Look at how Western media spins China's reining in of their corrupt and unscrupulous billionaires. ‍♂️

This Chinese celeb was a mistress to an infamous corrupted city Mayor, who transferred money to his personal driver when caught, hoping to reduce his sentence. This mistress then ran away with the driver who got the money and married him in Singapore.

She is a billionaire who made wealth by cheating in the share market via looting from small investors through fraudulent operations, inside jobs and shares manipulation. Her wealth grew from 60 million to 15 billion.

She is a traitorous billionaire who colluded with foreign anti-China powers, using their influence and power to laundry money for foreign organisation to feed the Fifth column armies within China.

She is also a Chinese actress who wore and glamorized the Japanese Imperial military flag. It is a symbol of the blood thirsty Japanese Imperial army during WWII who murdered millions of Chinese. Her act is tantamount to a Jew who wears a Nazi flag and idolise Hitler and the Nazi.

She is also a billionaire, who along with other billionaires, control Chinese social media. Much like how the Murdoch empire who monopolized Australia’s media industry to manipulate, censor and dominate public narratives and discourses.

She fueled anti-China sentiments, promoted tititytainment and low social moral spiritual media to drug and poison China's youths.

Yes, China doesn’t allow the formation of Wallstreet financial fraudsters, Murdoch Empire, Military Industrial Complex, Hollywood, Revolving door of Washington, Monsanto, etc etc. which people in the West are screaming about.

You can say that from a certain perspective - it is authoritarian and China's communism.

But this is the beauty of China's system.

And majority of the Chinese people are celebrating it - that their government is actually doing something about the wild exploitative growth of late-stage capitalism and corrupt unscrupulous billionaires.

China isn’t America. Chinese people are thankful that they live in a so-called "evil Commie country" where billionaires and exploitative capitalism are reined in and punished when they do wrong.

Meanwhile, the West can continue to celebrate their Wallstreet, Big Pharma and "Freedom of Speech" under the yoke of Murdoch and his ilk.
Thanks a lot for putting efforts in detailing the wrongdoings of Zhao Wei. Frankly I have a little interest in following up the celebrity news, and even during the recent news about her I was simply absent from that news development. So I am much surprised to learn from your post about how far the sins the actress has been done, be a mistress of the falling head in the eastern province (but somehow I already guessed/deduced when I read the brief news about the two fall-downs posted here -- an influential leader and a young attractive woman, just a natural causality most of the time: power, wealth and woman), and more shockingly learning that she'd run away with the boss' driver to Singapore and becomes billionaire there fantastic story

Really, Xi needs to clean up the nation from people like this and many other business improprieties incl. the Big Tech sector. It's truly a much blessing that China has a very good and strong and determined leader like Xi Jinping. And of course, in particular the Anglo media wanna see the fall of the nation of China, at least to impede her progress, so any act incl. the clean-up ones that will bring the nation to her betterment will be framed in the negative lenses by the Anglo force. What's better than to witness the regress of China due to all kinds of wrongdoings esp. the rampant corruptions??? That's a no-brainer understanding!

“The U.S. side hopes climate change cooperation can be an oasis in China-U.S. relations,” Wang said, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry late Wednesday. “But if the oasis is surrounded by desert, sooner or later the oasis will also become desert,” he said, stressing that the Chinese side had “shown its sincerity” with officials undergoing two-weeks of quarantine so they could meet Kerry.

Thing is, anglo america has often gotten used to being selective in its diplomacy with other nations; they did it to Russia, selectively engaging Russia in A-stan and Iran but screwing over Russia in Europe and Ukraine. The same brain trust in the anglosphere appear to believe they can do the same to China because there's something just so good and gooey about anglos that makes foreigners want to overlook anglo perfidy in the vain hope of some level of cooperation and agreement somewhere that will lead to better deals down the road.

Nup, anglo american diplomacy commensurate with its culture is based on 'bait and switch' and like the ponzi schemes that underpin its dollar hegemony, will continue to brazenly believe that other countries need it more than it needs them...until China appears on the scene that is.

lol, As if US care about "CN sincerity". China trying to suggest to US that cooperation in areas such as climate is incompatible with rivalry elsewhere is funny when they are asking India to box border dispute and 'restore normalcy' in overall ties.

Remember that there is a large power disparity between China and a smaller India.
So China can realistically ask India to compartmentalise issues.

In comparison, when the US asks China to compartmentalise issues, China can successfully refuse this request.
This is because China is bigger than the USA in many respects.

It's preparing the Chinese people for a strategic competition with the USA, as relations are going to get far worse.

In the next 10 years, China could grow to 2x larger than the USA, then 3x larger in the following decades.

But US Presidents and their administrations are unable to accept anything other than America First, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. Inevitably, they will lash out at a China which has supplanted the USA in many ways. China needs to manage this relative decline of the USA.

As for war, theoretically, there is also a window in the next few years where the USA could conduct a massive war against China and conceivably *win*

Following on from this, there's a fine line between strategic competitor versus enemy.
In the past few years, we've already seen the USA formally label China a strategic competitor.
And then there are those in the USA who passionately believe China is the enemy.

If China-US relations continue downwards, what are the odds of China deciding to build a significantly larger military than the USA, if China has an economy 2x or even 3x larger.
