I cannot confirm if the current heat wave is true, however, my limited knowledge will tell you that this is not nearly the hottest for India. How do I know this despite being completely uninterested in anything Indian or ever going anywhere near them? Because entomology is one of my hobbies and I know this:
Gongylus gongylodes is known colloquially as the Indian Wandering Violin Mantis. This animal is capable of surviving heat waves of up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit or 60 degrees Celsius... because those happen in India.
