Hmmm interesting, I wonder what the subject was.

I think the question to ask before that is who requested the phone conversation in the first place... that would then give us some hypothesis to work on what topics were on the discussion agenda

Well at least he didn't ask to speak to the 'highest guy' in the US military

Blinken: bail us out.
Yang: no.

If you read the news, the phone call was at the US' invitation

after the Alaska fiasco, blinken hated yang so much, he resorted to personal attack. he claimed "yang has no real power, he is one hundred miles away from China's inner power circle". then why bother to call?

He wanted to make up for his bad behavior and wants some Chinese cookie to go with Chinese tea.

So this was the exchange that took place.

China's Yang Jiechi told U.S. Secretary of State Blinken today that the U.S. should improve its "grave human rights abuses" within its borders, instead of diverting Americans attention by lecturing China.

Maybe Yang was referring to:
-The 100 killed in gun violence each day
-The 3 killed by police brutality each day
-The bottom 50% Americans who hold only 2% of all U.S. wealth (while the top 1% holds 30%)
-What else do you think?

They're squabbling enough to where they don't want the public to see how divisive it is within the alliance. Just for a communique...? Yes everything comes down to money that they don't have. It's all a superficial display for the public and that's it.
AFAIK thedailybeast is a rag.

But if their reporting is true then...
The president tried to cajole his colleagues to sign onto a joint statement calling out China directly for forced labor practices in Xinjiang province where the Muslim Uighur minority has been targeted by Beijing. It was not a roaring success.
pitted European nations against the United States, Britain and Canada
Usual suspects

persuading the mainland European contingent and Japan to go along with some kind of statement condemning China in a joint communiqué that will be published on Sunday.
IMO this might a signal that something is fishy with the reporting. Japan has lately dramatically ramped up their rhetoric. In fact just 1-2 days ago Suga just called Taiwan a "country". Japan recently shown that they pay little attention to what they say regarding China
Maybe it has changed its stance now.
Who knows?...

If this reporting is true (EU going against the US on China is indeed very likely), then Biden is in trouble if he cant even get them on the same page for just criticising China on a statement

China's counter-sanctions must have seriously rattled the EU lol

It's true though as when PM Ardern said the same thing, the Anglo media was widely in shock and full of indignation. But when PM Lee said the same, it was widely ignored or not worth mentioning by the Anglos.

Our PM Jacinda is much much better than Morrison ... business in NZ is booming export to China is booming too as China take everything from NZ that usually come from Aussie as well ... i.e crayfish, beef, milk, fish, etc

I did recently have a dream that when the USA goes dark due to power grid going down and nation tearing itself apart from lack of supplies, not only will China turns its attention to Australia, but the leadership will be in existential danger and ultimately australia future will be tied to China while the current leader is all the eradicated while the people could only watch and can only take it. Oh and the EU will simply swap sides and simply point and say I told you do you bloody drongo

Correction. It seems that the report is true. Politico confirmed the West's divergent views in the G7 meeting. So the dailybeast might also be right about the internet access getting cut off lol

France is broadly supportive of singling out China over its forced labor practices
I see that Macaroon is still salty about getting slapped

According to the senior U.S. administration official, France is broadly supportive of singling out China over its forced labor practices, but EU, German and Italian diplomats were more hesitant.
Based Merkel. Shame she is stepping down

Canada has been pressing the issue, trying to include mention of both Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, who have been detained in China since late 2018.
Poor Canada desperately trying to remain relevant. Maybe they can throw it a bone so that it doesn't complain too much in the future

Btw this is why Japan is such a snake
the other major player — Japan — made a veiled call on Europe to do more economically.
“With the European Union, we have helped with a number of their discussions on various issues such as the economic behavior, market distortion measures and also the economic assistance of China which are not compatible with international regulations,” Tomoyuki Koshida, the ministry of foreign affairs press secretary, told reporters. “It is our hope that Europe and Japan and other like-minded countries deepen such discussions in the future.”
Still trying to be a "honourary white" by pleasing its masters. Aint happening. You can beg all you want, you will forever be known as the "dont care where exactly they are from, they are all look the same in Asia. They are all Chinese" guy

Maybe Japan needs to bend down again?

I need to add a rule to prevent people from abusing NSFW tag. I was seriously concerned that you were posting some porno image and had my ban hammer ready.

I didnt said if it was theirs or not, fair or not. They still managed to get land though.

Only results matter. I bet you that in 50 years noone will remember the Palestinian issue.

Thats how things work. Victors write history and all that

As a kid I remember all sorts of US propaganda of how the Soviet Virgin Lands campaign was a disaster which drained the Aral Sea. What you never hear is how the US drained Tulare Lake in California to make massive plantations in San Joaquin Valley.

You're discerning enough to pick up the potential different attitude of Japan regarding all these alleged Chinese human rights issues. But you're probably not terribly familiar with Japan's finessed China policy due to its brutal history with modern China. Japan usually does not align exactly with western nations on human rights because the many crimes it committed against China. It also usually tries to be a bit more cautious when it comes to Taiwan because of its history of grabbing Taiwan from Qing China after the 1894 Sino-Japan War. That's why the US had to apply a lot of pressure on Suga when he visited Washington earlier this year to extract a statement from him mentioning Taiwan Strait.

That said, Japan has been gradually aligning with the US against China, sometimes even more aggressively. So you can not rule out any possibilities these days. Japan is burning its bridges with China.
