No need to be emotional about Eileen Gu. It's a case of a good time... while it last. And the lady is still only 22. So far that's two right decisions in wanting to represent China. She said she wanted to do her part in inspiring or encouraging Chinese people to do winter sports, and I think she succeeded in that regard. She didn't give me the impression that she was taking advantage of China either.

As for white worshipping, if we use the example of Hollywood movies pulling power in China as a yardstick, then this is just a passing phase. Mainlander used to worship Hong Kongers or their celebrities too. Both Hollywood and Hong Kong movies are no longer seen by mainlanders now as default superior.

In the future, Chinese people who still idolises western people or values, would most likely be viewed the same way as how Americans view "otakus" who is deep into all things Japanese.

Something I realized about the world recently is unfortunately many of the important things in life have a very short window of opportunity. This is even more apparent at the high level. When you are in the 100m final at the Olympics, you have 10 seconds to make or break your entire existence. Everything in your life up to that point will be decided in basically a few seconds.

Now you can say but China isn't operating on 10 seconds. It has long term goals! Right. How long have the commies being in power? Less than 1 century. Given how long China has existed, thats not a very long time. When they say they want to be a fully developed country, they really only have 10 to 20 years at most to make the most of its growth phase which is where everything is decided. Thats not really a lot. If they fail to take advantage of it then its pretty much over since everything they do afterwards will not be enough to get it above the required threshold to be fully developed.

So India keeps saying I will do it later one day in the future. By the time you become actually serious about it, the window of opportunity may have already closed. So there is no tomorrow because you didn't pay attention to today!

Yeah, exactly my good man, could not agree even more than that with your sentiments.

That is why I keep bringing up the old stories.

It is all about positioning, then action the time to strike.

Then we let the chips fall where they may. Or we see how the hexagram evolves and develops itself, hehe.

Deng said we will teach Vietnam a lesson even if it cost Yunnan 25 years of development!

But, there is context there, because Deng and the CCP believed it probably was a possibility with better relations with the West.

So the tanks rolled. Then the Chinese forces voluntarily retreated.

Unsettled times, turned into stability over the decades, and the old foes, China, Vietnam and Russia, are all friends now.

That brief border, reset the entire trajectory of Asia more or less.

It stopped Soviet expansionism in its tracks, client states included. Laid the groundwork for future peace.

Guess what I am saying, is I agree with you, the time to act, best to be in the position to act.

And if the decision is correct, then we probably are on the right path.

That probably is India most difficult problem. They are not in the position to act. How Trump bullied Modi laid it bare.

In constant to the Chinese, who are always in a position to act. That we just call statecraft. Stuff we read from history books, because Confucius said go study to know the future, blah blah blah.

What is so ingrained and normal for Chinese, seems so alien when we read the BBC world report. LOL!

:p

Sanae Takaichi dissolved the lower house parliament and calls for snap elections. Maybe she thinks she's riding on a popularity wave and wanna get a firm mandate.

Let's see what kind of Japan turns up. If they wanna give PM Takaichi a firm mandate, that's okay. China is only just getting started with Japan. It would be nice for China to keep it's boot on the Japanese fascists' neck for longer. Ending this fight so soon is gonna be anti-climactic.

There is more than one American representing Chinese sports.
There is Kyle Forman Anderson from the basketball team and several ice hockey players.
The reason why Gu Ailing is so well-known is that she won a gold medal.
I hope to have a football player at the level of Messi join the Chinese team.

The most harmful player in Chinese history. There was absolutely no reason for China to try to bring this half-American by blood but full American by Upbringing and mindset as a Chinese player and give her a platform. They could have done without those 2 golds.

DId nothing but vindicate racist stereotypes about half-white kids as superior, put her on a pedastal and again embellish the white worship tendencies among Chinese and frankly embarass China on world stage.
Total disagree and in fact sends the exact opposite message.

I'm not so sure about a Messi-level player joining Chinese football team though. Football is a super massive black hole in sucking up national resources, both financially and mentally, if our intend is to be on par with the elite footballing nations of the world. The game is at such a high level in terms of tactics, coaching, league organisations, nutritions, training, etc. currently, because everyone is doing it, and they have a 100 year head start on China.

China has a better shot at being the absolute peak in semiconducting, than to be just one among the true football elite nations.

Better to leave out football for the time being, until China has become fully developed in all other domains.

It makes sense, this 'Chinese professor' would not have become as significant as he did without CIA involvement, just like how all prominent chinese youtubers are falun gong.
Yeah. This Prof Jiang Xueqin guy is quite suspicious to me. He has been getting engaged with various pro-China YouTubers, and that's kinda suspicious. His "US Falling Empire" theory is certainly gaining some traction.

However his views are quite suspicious. He is a strong advocate for splitting Russia from China. Always warning that Russia will betray China after the Ukraine War ends. He also has this strange theory that America "gifted" it's technology to China. As if China owes it's technology and industrial achievements to the US.

I think this Prof Jiang dude is managed opposition. He is probably infiltrating the pro-China and leftist media. Then start influencing them according to American agendas.

I mean China can do both. Uzbekistan ain't exactly rich and they figured out how to have a decent squad. Vietnam recently beat South Korea in bronze for the Asia U23 cup.

Its not really a matter of resources at this point. Its the fact that China still cannot find the root cause problem for crappy football. There is something seriously wrong with how it selects players as well as trains them to operate as a team. Unless they figure that out, no amount of money will help unless they just wanna buy every best player in the world in their prime and give them Chinese citizenship. But even that's no guarantee.

China's Communist Party has decided to open an investigation into senior military officials Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli for suspected serious violations of discipline and law, China's Ministry of National Defense said on Saturday.

Zhang is a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), while Liu is chief of staff of the CMC Joint Staff Department, according to the ministry.

Zhang, 75, is widely seen as President Xi Jinping's closest military ally and one of just a few leading officers with combat experience. He is one of two vice-chairmen of the CMC, China's supreme armed forces command organisation.

The military was one of the main targets of a broad corruption crackdown ordered by Xi in 2012. That drive reached the upper levels of the military in 2023 when the Rocket Force was targeted.

Eight top generals were expelled from the ruling Communist Party on graft charges in October 2025, including the country's number two general, He Weidong. He had served under Xi and alongside Zhang on the Central Military Commission.

Two former defence ministers were also purged from the party in recent years for corruption. The crackdown is slowing procurement of advanced weaponry and hitting the revenues of some of China's largest military firms.

In this Thursday, January 22, 2026 lecture to his Beijing high school students, Professor Jiang explains how the British empire evolved into an offshore financial system.
