#1) what natural resources does the UK actually have other than oil/gas in Scotland?
#2) At the rate the rule based disorder is running things into the ground no such abduction is necessary.

I heard London has a decently large gold deposit underground.

The British museums also hold a lot of looted Chinese relics that should be returned.

Maybe the Crown Jewels as well as compensation.

Remember, China should respect western cultural normals and not seek to do any sort of nation building or reconstruction after a special military operation, and just strip the place of everything not nailed down and leave the locals to figure out how to put things back together after Chinese missiles and bombs and systematically demolished their key national infrastructure.

China imposes stricter export controls to Japan

China tightens export control of dual-use items to Japan, with immediate effect: MOFCOM

This was a very big move. This would make Japan double down on "alternate" supply chains. Japan still has a solid grip on part of the supply chain where it has been very dominant. Other than that, Japan is the 4-5th largest economy in the world.

This is only the opening move. If Japan does not fundamentally change course to China’s satisfaction, more moves will follow.

Japan can build an alternative supply chain, eventually, but how much will that cost and how long will that take? In the meantime their factories are going to rapidly run out of all sorts of essential inputs.

What happens to Japanese plans to weather this move when China’s next blows comes down?

And you can bet China’s moves will be combo blows designed to reinforce and supplement each other rather than uncoordinated moves in isolation.

It’s very likely China will purposely wait for Japan to plough significant resources into a counter move, like trying to set up a whole alternative supply chain, to deliver the next blow that will instantly make all that investment useless.

Japan has wittingly or not touched upon a red line China will absolutely not allow them to cross. And in doing so they have offered themselves up as the perfect practice dummy for China to try out all the powerful moves and combos they have been practicing for decades. Unless Japan does some impressive abortive action pretty soon, it’s not going to do well for them.

Really? Venezuela & Iran oil are not a very big part of China's oil imports... about 1/4 in total.

I think Russia can compensate for that. Also China's domestic oil production is far from the ceiling.
Venezuelan oil i guess will go to revive Europe to make up the loss from Russia.

Doubt it, Crude prices are already below $60/barrel.
It's a level where US oil industry is hardly able to make new investments, undermining its future viability.

If anything we should expect the US to try push Crude prices towards $70/barrel, this can only be achieved by slashing production, e.g. fully dismantling the Venezuelan oil industry.

China must be pretty sure that it doesn't require essential Japanese inputs (e.g. photoresist) in order to make this move.

Not just photoresist, Japan is an integral supplier of many components, chemicals, precision tools that go in all sorts of stuff. Even if everything could be replaced, it will have a big impact at least temporarily on China's own supply chain.

I can bet this will be implemented selectively against Japan's MIC only, not as others are saying to deindustrialize Japan or the like.
