It seems more like China and Russia abstained because any solution towards peace is better than no solution, given the alternatives would be vetoed by US/UK, thereby prolonging the conflict. Abstaining, therefore, signifies "we don't like this but we prefer peace over no peace".
And, it isn’t China's fight. If China were to veto this, they would be expected to develop an alternate, a scheme requiring Chinese efforts and Chinese resources in the region to match those of the West whom are invested in this conflict for more than a hundred years with their domestic politics deeply tied to Israel (debtee are Jewish).
