Pretty much everything reported here comes from publicly accessible websites. I honestly don't know how you can think this is some sort of nexus of "truthful" information about China. It's just a forum (and most of the people here don't even live in China).

The potential trade deal between the UK and Australia has nothing to do with China. When the UK was part of the EU it was bound by the organisation's trade policy, which did not have an FTA with Australia. It makes perfect sense that Australia wants access to the UK market in as many areas as possible, including on agriculture.

If there was an FTA that covered agriculture, it would boost sales for Australian farmers and lower prices in the UK.

What debt leverage does China hold over Ethiopia that the Chinese government can "cripple" it? If you loan someone money you can't just demand they repay you in full early because you're a jerk.

Apparently he got the idea back in his 20s when touring through field of wild rice. Among the rice plant he found a single naturally occurring hybridised rice plant (something exceptionally unlikely to happen). This rice plant had an extremely long ear full of very full grain of rice. He harvested the seed and planted them and to his disappointment the 2nd generation wild hybrid rice all came out rubbish as the hybrid children all regressed back to their parent's traits.

But still, the idea was stuck in his head. He proposed the idea to others and was told "you can't hybridise rice because rice is a self-pollination plant"

And he then basically spent the next 60+ years, the rest of his life doing a "Oh yeah? We'll see about that!"

This is a genuine outpour of respect and sympathy. The west simply won't get this for China. They either think these people are ushered or coerce into coming out.

Yeah, like we were when we were kids during the royal visit. All us school children when ushered out and given a flag to wave. And the BBC news reel were commentating on how "popular" the royal were.

Seems detente between Putin and Biden might be short lived.
