I've seen this popping up everywhere on reddit too. Where even is the source for this? If you're going to talk about what somebody said I expect a quote at the very least. Otherwise these articles are legitimately just "trust me bro"
Pretty straightforward US propaganda. They didn't even try to hide it.
It serves several purposes.
1. It tries to show that the EU foreign minister (the rabid pro US shill, which some have called naive and inexperienced) is shrewd enough to trap Wang Yi into admitting this issue
2. It tries to push the EU into a quick deal with the US by presenting china as also an unreliable partner that is sneaky and doesn't back up their public word
3. Decreases calls for china to be a peaceful broker. Pushes the EU drive a hard bargain with China and prevents the EU from giving china favorable terms to be a peace broker
4. Makes the Russians feel like china is only helping them to look out for themselves and not because china supports Russia.
But these objectives, while looks good for the US on the surface, doesn't change anything that we don't already know.
This is classic good cop bad cop. US is bad cop and EU tried to be good cop. China sees through this very clearly.
The EU was already driving a hard bargain with China even before this started. They were already turning against china even during the first trump regime.
China has always pushed for peace between Russia and Ukraine. What's considered a Russian loss? The west and EU feel like that is defined at total Russian collapse. Of course China won't let that happen! That's pretty clear. So yes, china cannot afford a Russian loss, or more likely a Russian collapse.
EU has already been against using china as a Peaceful broker, unless Ukraine is about to collapse, then they will try to cosy up to China and ask Chins to call a ceasefire against Russia. Thus trying to trap china. This is an old game, it doesn't work on china. Russia fell for this in the past but not anymore. Now Russia already know, but even more so, that china has their back.
In the end, the people who already hate china will play this up. The people who support china won't care, cause they agree with China's position. The ones in between will continue to be inbetween cause it's just real geopolitics. Lol it's a western media propaganda game, very easy for them to play give their control over western media, but doesn't change anything on the ground.
