He has a valid point and does have legal implications. It is as serious as Republic of Austria made

to ban the return of Hubsburg family to Austria because the last emperor did not relinquish his claim to the sovereignty. Remember the complaints from western countries about the comments from Chinese ambassdor who said that Russian-Ukrainian border was never legally settled? It is a matter as serious as that.

Another example is PRC denounced multiple times ROC's constitutional amendment including abolishing Fujian and Taiwan province under ROC control. The ground is that ROC is legally bound to amend its constitution with representitives from populations in all its founding territory which includes mainland. PRC being sensitive to the matter is not because it cares much inside Taiwan, but PRC can not allow ROC to legally anounce independence without giving mainland the legal ground to attack it. Very often letters on paper matters.

I heard there is a strong Maoism movement in India that is actively persecuted by the government, China is really unwise to not capitalise on this and fund those groups. Would be one of the easiest strategic move possible. And it can be done very covertly and very much possible to have all the connections disguised. There's still so much room for China to learn from the US (pre trump) in terms of soft power play and overseas intelligence operations. Wasted opportunity.

Accusing China of the fake genocide of Uyghurs? Check. Accusing South Africa of the fake genocide of white farmers? Check. Abetting and supporting Israel of a real genocide in Gaza? Check.

Do they import high quality Chinese rice?
Ignorable if any. Japan's rice is nearly 100% self sufficient. Japan mainly import wheat as direct human consumption. The major sources are US, Australia and Canada. See this link

especially this graph from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

This is food import measured by calories. Only 38% are domestic mostly rice. The rest 62% are imported mostly wheat. China's part is very small.

Japan's "rice crisis" is a compound problem resulting from low yield in 2024 due to bad weather and low self-sufficiency leading to sensitivity to international market changes.
