I've been saying it for many years now, but Vietnam is the perfect example of the BRI in action despite never having even signed up to it. People think it's some sort of China centered pact, or a scheme for China to use its capital to gain favors (e.g. voting in the UN) or make money or take control of assets using debt. Like the saying goes, every accusation is an admission of guilt, and such labeling of the BRI is nothing but a reflection of thr mindset of an imperialist rentier class.
The BRI's true purpose is none of that. It's to create an economic system that is so intertwined with China that it's simply inseparable, so that if you want to cut China off, you have to cut off its participating members as well. Whether a country "signs up" to or "exits" the scheme is irrelevant, what's important is tying every aspect of a participant's economy with China's. Vietnam is so tied with China that regardless of their anti-China sentiments, they simply cannot separate from China.
