Lmao, this coming from the same city whose residents were conned into the anti-Zero-Covid "protests" (botched color revolution attempt) just two years ago. What they actually need is not for the moron petite bourgeois Chinese libs who apparently thought dishwashers in the US were living large in paid-off penthouses, until just recently when they encountered actual Americans on XHS, to have easier access to more Western internet slop. The only thing that this "lawmaker" needs is to be rounded up by the military police and made to change his family name to prevent an unworthy lib from sharing the same name as Mao.
The reason why pretty much everyone here is on a forum like this in the ass-crack of the English internet, at the complete bemusement of this site's admins and mods who had just wanted this to be initially a purely PLA opsec exposing site, is because people here have been ostracized from all the major platforms on the English internet due to being either banned or piled on for being less than 100% on board with the Western anti-China narrative, forcing the mods here to create this Miscellaneous thread. The GFW being lifted isn't going to lead to a fantasy scenario of Chinese voices democratically drowning out the West through strength in numbers, but AI-assisted and algorithmic-backed censorship and bans on anyone who resists the anti-China narrative on those platforms. Any Chinese user who wants to stay on the international platforms controlled by the West's complete media monopoly will be made to toe the line and any clueless person who wanders onto the English internet "in search of the truth" will just be straight up propagandized into an anti-communist within China.
The GFW isn't because "China lacks confidence," and never was, but has always been because, outside the GFW, every information and narrative platform is controlled by the West with an utterly obsessive totalitarian thoroughness. This is the reason for the forced sale and ban on TikTok, as the Supreme Court itself explicitly said in its 9-0 decision, this was a "justifiable national security threat" because it challenged the US' information control. Any narrative challengers are simply censored and de-platformed outright. Only a naive liberal utterly isolated from exposure to the realities of the "international internet" would believe this is a place where "free speech" takes place under a "fair fight." The idiotic logical leaps this Shanghai comprador makes in his proposal: "aligning Shanghai with international norms," (the same norms the West is at this very moment flouting?) "learning from developed countries" (the same lessons the West is currently ignoring?) and the idea that China needs ChatGPT (or Facebook and Twitter, lol) to be "innovative" when the country has a competitive LLM sector of its own now shows that any so-called "purges" that Xi is conducting within the Party simply haven't gone far enough.

Yeah I doubt it.
It is a testament to the mental strength of the Chinese people that even while being inundated by advanced totalitarian media we have still have so many educated and rational minded patriots in the West, whether silent or on this forum.
The GFW must never be breached; China remains a novice in informational warfare, while the USA is its most proficient master in history.
