Poverty and culture are no excuses for India not progressing much better.
South Korea, Singapore, China were once poorer and in worse conditions than India. Even Taiwan started from nothing. But all of them endured decades of sacrifices and toils up to the present to improve their country.
In democratic India today, 90% of Indians are still poorer than sub Saharan Africa, 77 years after gaining independence.
While Great Britain, Canada and USA are developing much better, in part, due to the contributions from their indian minorities, the best brains from India. It's so ironic.
To change the status quo, India needs humble self reflections for a start.
On the other hand, maybe their lives are not worth more than something made cheaply in China. Maybe their lives are worth only how much made in China goods they can buy
