China likes to pick the conflict when they have an overwhelming advantage. It was that way first with green tech, then with batteries, then drones and now cars. It'll be the same with graphic cards and AI.
When growing the platforms, China often says "there is room for both of us" etc, but the moment they pull ahead, they switch gears and suddenly it's "all ours now".
Honestly I don't know why they actually act like that, because it's not like people have real alternatives to China anyways. They follow a predictable pattern and anyone can predict what will happen next, so why bother to obfuscate it?
The whole "they setup conflict" is 100% intentional, China often wants to fight because they gain ground from doing it.
You are basically falling for the Israel logic fallacy created by the west, where they arbitrarily draw a line in the sand which conveniently glosses over all their own past transgressions and provocations so they can paint all of the reactions and retaliation to their earlier hostile acts as unilateral actions of aggression.
There is no technological field where China inherited an overwhelming advantage or even parity. China had to work its ass off to come from behind and take the lead jealously and ruthlessly guarded by the west. It had to endure hardship, obstacles and often outright sabotage by their western competitors to get ahead. So is it any wonder they are no longer in a magnanimous sharing mood when those same western firms who tried every trick in the book and them some to destroy Chinese competition now demands that Chinese companies ‘play nice’ and stay out of their turf?
It’s the same situation as the SCS islands. At the start, China offered a sweet deal to avoid conflict, but the west spat on that deal and China’s goodwill and tried to play hardball. So is it any wonder China told them to fuck off when they lost and came crawling back demanding the original deal?
And this pattern isn’t isolated to China. It’s basically the same pattern over and over again with the west, just look at Ukraine. They literally fought and lost and now want to go back to a deal Russia offered to avoid fighting as if they are doing Russia a massive favour and goes all surprised-pikachu-face when the Russians tell them to shove that deal up their arse. It’s just that up to now, only China has had the raw hard power to fight the west head-on and win to expose this underlying pathology. But as the west continues to decline, expect this to happen more and more.
