The industrial insider told the Global Times that employees of BCI's Shanghai office have been under great pressure since 2019. "The US may want to kill TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE - by pressuring BCI, it could slander China's Xinjiang and also squeeze BCI's market to promote its own standards on cotton industries."I think the Xinjiang cotton saga has two purposes: first, use it as an excuse to attack China. second, to boycott China's cotton so to force China to import more cotton from abroad, the US for example.
Some user there commented like this:Latest 观棋有语 has some interesting discussions about so called wolf warrior diplomacy as well as the EU/UK sanctions.
- with regards to the boycott, if companies take a two faced approach where they don't use Xinjiang cotton in foreign countries but do not engage in that sort of behaviour in China, that would be considered acceptable. A few Japanese companies have already taken this position (Muji comes to mind for me)
- this wave of trouble with Xinjing is obviously an attempt at driving a wedge between China and the Islamic World. Mr Su says as far as he can see, the plan is linear with Step A, Step B, Step C all the way up to something like Step G. For some reason they've designed it so each subsequent step depends on the success of an earlier step, much like say Operation Market Garden. Currently they are on Step C and unfortunately for them, "XXX Corps" of this story has been stop dead in its track by China and there doesn't seem like there's any possibility go do a jump from Step B to Step D
- Mr Su says the problem with the plan is that it's already difficult for westerners to go to the Islamic World and spread negative rumours about China, while at the same time if China where to counterattack and speak negatively about Israel and its big brother (interesting they mention Israel out of blue here isn't it) to Muslims it would be readily accepted. At this point Mr Yang says he had indeed tried this in front of Hezbollah while he was there and as soon as the world "America" is mentioned they get very excited
- there's up to 10,000 Uyghur jihadist in Idlib, China has warned Turkey that at this time if they were to attempt a new wave of Pan-Turkism or cause back flow of terrorists into China then there would be consequences. Particularly China pointed out the performance of CASC Rainbow series of UCAVs in Saudi hands as a hint
- it's not politically correct for Erdogan to completely end his support of Pan-Turkism, so understandably Turkey's comment towards China when Wang Yi was there was not as clear as say from the Saudi, however in the current state that Turkey find itself in it's in no condition to make any concrete contribution towards Pan-Turkism. Saudi Arabia and Iran have anywhere between zero to negative interest in Pan-Turkism.
- Mr Su recalls what he saw of how Turkey actually engages in support for Pan-Turkism in China. The would take TV shows in Turkey, translate them into ethnic language and then hand out the CDs for free in China. At first the CDs were completely innocent, then they would add an extra introduction saying "we're all one family" and "we welcome long lost relatives to come to visit Turkey". With passage of time the message in the CDs would get more and more seditious until you start to see old man with white beard and golden halo behind him saying things that would be in direct violation of national security. Then once China tighten security at the border Turkey went so far as to officially issue counterfeit passports.
- on the matter of UK sanction (UK is Mr Su's speciality due to past work), Mr Su says one of the person on the sanction list earns two sets of incomes, with the main incoming coming from a certain organisation with a funny looking building on the Thames. He would prefer not to mention the name directly as it's considered unprofessional in his line of work. Xi Yazhou says "you mean that organisation from a certain line of action movies filmed by Hollywood but about UK and with a numerical number in its title?" and Mr Su said yes that one. This individual previously often travelled to Hong Kong SAR and made contact with various people and made offers like "we would like result X, how much money do you want for that?"
- the inclusion of this this British individual on the sanction list is a clear sign to EU that China considers UK to be more troublesome, the EU sanction on the other hand is more symbolic. Mr Su says EU would actually be happy to see UK being hit harder by the sanctions. This British individual have also made contact with oppositions in Russia and assorted other "Freedom Fighters" around the world, he seem to enjoy being the money in these sort of situation
- this UK sanction is actually having more of an effect, the British individual from a certain organisation along with a few others on the list earn most of their income from matters to do with China. Once banned from entering China would essentially be unemployed. The sanction would also have an deterrent effect on other individuals engaged in similar line of work but not yet on the sanction list
- UK is still mostly interested in Hong Kong and not Xinjiang, US is the one that's mostly interested in Xinjiang
Most importantly, China has changed the strategic chess board on a global as well as a regional level. The U.S. is now focusing on direct military confrontation with China in the Pacific. China is playing at a global level, and it has just shown that it can exploit the narrow way that some in the U.S. focus on actual fighting in one part of the world. There also is no clear way to know how far this particular move will affect the game in the future. It may stay largely economic, but it opens up many new future military moves in the future. Put simply, it is a serious warning that China may be playing three dimensional chess while the U.S. is attempting to win at checkers.
