Exactly.

The initial stories may have been accurate in saying that one of them broke down...but I am suspecting spin (which this admin has done on too many occasions to recount) because when it became apparent that that simply could not fly, the suggestion now is that they both broke down simultaneously, which is even harder to believe.

Time will tell...but it may be some time.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said U.S. officials were in touch with the Iranians and received assurances the sailors are “being afforded the proper courtesy that you’d expect.” The boats were on a trip from Kuwait to Bahrain.

“We are watching this closely and we have received assurances from the Iranians that our sailors are safe and they will be allowed to continue their journey promptly,” Mr. Earnest said.
Implicit in the WH statement is that the Iranians are kind enough to repair the engines so that they can continue with their journey. The WH should employ a fact checker so that the story is more coherent.

I have contacts n the Navy who are telling me that the word is that the riverine vessels did not break down, but were approached by larger Iranian vesselss in international waters, and according to ROEs were not to resist or cause any incident...but to depend on diplomatic negotiations to work it out.

Not just for this incident, but as a standing order if presented with a superior force.

I have to confirm this...but it sounds to me like another "lead from behind," embarrassing, shameful moment.

The recent carrier incident was a sign of things to come if unchecked. I am just surprised that a follow up incident was so close to the one prior. Some political pundit was suggesting it as an attempt to embarrass Obama in his SOU address.

I guess patience is a virtue. Let's see how the WH spin this one.

The latest news is that the boats were lost, found in Iranian waters and arrested and, the latest news, they've been sent on their way again, with Kerry thanking Iran. BBC Radio 4 The World at One.

Question:
Were the boats navigating only on GPS and did they meet an area where the signal was unreliable, near Farsi island? It was earlier said that the Iranians had downloaded the GPS logs of the boats.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has released 10 U.S. Navy sailors who were being held after their boats are said to have drifted into Iranian waters on a journey from Kuwait to Bahrain Tuesday.

"Ten U.S. Navy Sailors safely returned to U.S. custody today, after departing Iran. There are no indications that the Sailors were harmed during their brief detention,” according to a statement from the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command Public Affairs Office.

"The Sailors departed Farsi Island at at 8:43 a.m. GMT, aboard the two Riverine Command Boats (RCB) that they had been operating when they lost contact with the U.S. Navy. The Sailors were later transferred ashore by U.S. Navy aircraft, while other Sailors took charge of the RCBs and continued transiting toward Bahrain, the boats' original destination. The Navy will investigate the circumstances that led to the Sailors' presence in Iran," the statement added.

Explosions in downtown Jakarta

At least two people are reported to have been killed in a series of blasts in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, with gunfire breaking out afterwards.

The blasts happened outside the Sarinah shopping centre, near the presidential palace and UN offices, say reports.

A UN official near the scene, Jeremy Douglas, told the BBC that gunfire was ongoing.

Police have said they believe this is a bomb attack. There is no indication yet of who might be behind the assault.

Indonesia has been attacked by Islamist militant groups in the past and has been on high alert.

The area around the blast site has been cordoned off.

National police spokesman told AFP people had been warned to stay indoors in case of further explosions.

Mr Douglas said he had been about 150m away from one of the blasts.

"Then we ran into the building. We heard a third explosion. We got up to our office on the tenth floor and we heard a fourth, a fifth and a sixth.

"There is gunfire going on in the street right now."

Ouch...six explosions and ongoing gunfire.

I fear the casualty list is going to go much higher.

Most probably Islamic Terror.

May God in Heaven rest those killed, and may He bless and comfort the grieving.
