This was likely true before the tech war, which bent all market normalcies. Ideally, every tech company would want to be in all the largest markets including China, the US and the EU and they'd want to source the most cost-effective and high quality solutions from across the globe to make money but the trade war destroyed all market norms. It minted many tech companies in China whose purpose is first and foremost to provide domestic solutions in China's tech scene and second to make money. The US is now seen as an enemy to be defeated rather than a reliable source and market. It's what happens when you start a tech war with the largest and most profficient STEM population on earth. You thought you could beat a sleeping giant to death but you're only strong enough to wake him up.
I understand that's a total comedy but I like everything to make some sense. Comedies should be built around sense too. A teenager needs a car so he does tons of odd jobs during his summer break to buy a clunker = makes sense, can definitely add humor to the plot. A teenager needs a car so he prays to Cthulu for the ability to shapeshift his mom into a car... = doesn't make sense; any humor you add to it will be drowned out by the plot being too stupid.
In this case, I think the natural expectation if you have magical powers and are being oppressed is going to be the Malcolm X approach. Instead of spending 4 months trying to make a racist shithead happy so he doesn't harm black people, how about I spend 2 seconds to explode his head and move on to the next case? Instead of resigning myself to the notion that an uncomfortable white man, such as a cop fingering his gun just because he sees 2 black people hanging out, is the most dangerous animal on earth whom you must soothe, how about realizing that a black person with the magical ability to turn the cop inside-out by snapping his fingers might actually be slightly more dangerous? These are just thoughts that would strongly distract from comedic value.
I dunno, maybe in the movie, they explain that this magic is very limited and has no combat value but even then, I would never voluntarily perform favors to those who oppress me in exchange for relief. I'd rather take those powers and serve his enemies. The concept that even with magical powers, black people can only thrive with white people's approval and by catering to white people's needs is a garbage and insulting plot. I couldn't laugh if I were black; I'm Chinese and I'm feeling second hand insult just by imagining myself in that situation.
Nothing of what I just said would be suitable for making a Hollywood movie though LOL
