Re: Military FAQ

Are Chinese su-27 and j-11 pilots trained to execute Pugachev cobra's on their aircraft? Do they know how to?

***********Sorry but that could be inturperated in bad ways and we all want to stay out of trouple?*****************

As far as the Pugachev manuver I saw a program on PBS about what was left of the Russian AF about 5 years ago. And some part of this show was spent on this manuver. A Russian pilot speaking through an inturperter says they have tried teach this manuver to other nations(old Eastern bloc?) but without success. No mention of PLAAF pilots.

the Pugachev manuver is not very paratical given the alfa limter on some SU-27 has to be turned off but the tailslide of the Mig-29 should not be too hard

You do know that the Pugachev is peformed by a highly trained pilot and the plane carries minimal fuel and no weapons?
On a fully loaded plane, I would have to say it's probably impossible :coffee:

Re: Military FAQ

The rumor is untrue. In the 1994 Paris Airshow, some russian air commnder ordered his su-27 pilots to perform all their air tricks with a stnadard weapons loadout, in order to dispell the rumor that a flanker is not supermanuverable until its fuel is half gone and with no weapons. All of his pilots performed the moves, which included cobras.

Well, I read an article where some chinese pilots received a training to do the Cobra in Russia, But it was mainly for accrobatic purpose.

I don't remember what I posted but I certianly did not nor have I ever intended to insult anyone.

Anyway I saw another video of Russians doing these manuvers at an airshow(Paris??) some years ago and one plane crashed. The pilot ejected an landed on a auto. Anyone seen that one?

Airshows are fun but dangerous. In '78 at the NAS Miramar CA airshow an Blue Angel then flying an A-4 Sky Hawk flew it straight into the ground on a low level pass. The plane and pilot was burned to a cinder.

Unfortuanetly these things have repeated couple of times, latest was in Ukraina when Sukhois figthers tryed to pull marvelous maneuvres in too low level and it had ended in killing the wievers.

The SD-10/Pl-12 is basically china's first indigenious "fire and forget" beyond visual range missile. It is also one of the first missile developed locally in china that is comparable to its western counterparts. The article should be able to answer most of your questions.

No one is certain about the true range though, so any numbers you see are probrably estimates.
