How does the US control the Chinese government and policy then?
Political parties files cases against each other's members for various reasons. There are also cases of people arrested for speaking against chief ministers and they were supporters of ruling national party. Courts later release them.
In India courts will save you if you are wronged but in case of China courts will take side of party.

I said different kind of colonialism where you don't need to govern the territory but you still get all the benefits of having a colony.

You get far less for your money in the US than you get in China. The US military is known for nonsense frivolous spending like $8K coffee makers, $10K toilet seats, etc... and When comparing overall national power, collective PPP is more accurate.
Carriers are used for intimidation of weak countries; against strong countries that can take them out in one hit, they are not useful. America is specialized at intimidating the weak.
1 refurbished, 1 home made of ski jump class, already moving on to EMALS class in construction. And Chinese construction is basically a year or 2, not a decade+ long stalled project like in India.
A few? LOLOL You have no idea how large China's air force is, do you? There is no such thing as stolen technology in the military. This technology is for killing; you should get a hold of it in any way possible, invent your own, improve, do whatever you can to make it the best.

China overtook the US in scientific publication and is growing in every respect to overtake the US. American science relies on mostly Chinese but also other foreigners the allegiance of whom they are uncertain. No other country comes close and America's lethargic growth (and sometimes decline) won't cut it. That's why the panic in America with every policy about dealing with China.

China is still less powerful in general compared to the US, but it's hauling ass up the ladder that is putting the US in a panic, and instead of harvesting that energy for growth, it has caused America to lose composure and slip.

If China is really being colonized by the US then the US is doing a really bad job at it because a colony is never suppose to act against their masters and compete with them in technology and industry. Meanwhile India is more like a colony to the US because they are willing to use their people as cannon fodder against China to advance US interests.D
