modern jamming pod are all self contain, radar warning receiver, jamming transmitter, signal processing are contain in the pod.this allowed any fighters to carry it for self protection.
JH-7A seen in the picture is not specialized jamming aircraft.but it also show the aircraft versatility.

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

Anybody has any idea on how much extra weight the JH7A can carry in the sky? I mean suppose the maximum take off weight is 30 tons, the empty weight is 21.5 tons. Then there're 8.5 tons for extra payload. If the JH7A carries 7 tons of weapon to take off, then there are only 1.5 tons left for fuel. So after taking off, the plane can refuel from the tanker. So my question is, how much fuel it can take? The maximum flying weight should be significantly larger than the maximum take off weight. Say, is it possible for JH7A to carry 5 tons of fuel and 7 tons of weapon?

don't concern yourself with stuff like that. Whether it's 7 ton or 8.5 ton, it has enough payload to handle any kind of missions it has. The question is what the range is for certain payload.

IMO if the max payload is 8.5 tons, it's very unlikely that they'd send the plane up with 7 tons of munitions.

A Su-24 has max payload of 8,000 kg for munitions. But on typical combat load, they put 3,000 kg munitions + external fuel tanks to reach 615 km combat radius without aerial refueling. If they load 7,000 kg of munitions on it, the combat radius would be too short to be useful.

That's exactly my question. I'm asking the max load of fuel after refuel in the air, given 7tons of weapons already on the plane.

I'm asking the situation when the aerial refueling is available.

JH-7A doesn't have aerial refueling capabilities. And also, what configuration would result in 7 tons of payload?

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

7 tons is just an example. Say, use composite pylon to carry a lot of 250/500 kg bombs. No aerial refuel ability, that's bad. So I guess for sea striking mission, one JH7A can only carry 4 YJ83?

I've never seen JH-7A carry more than 4 ton in any of the pictures, but a lot of the range stuff is not just dependent on how much it carries but what it carries. I'm sure carrying 1 missiles that's 4 ton probably will not be the same as carrying 4 missiles of 1 ton each. If you are looking for actual data, I believe it's somewhere in this thread. JH-7A compares pretty well to some of the other strike aircraft.

At least one of the missiles is a YJ-91, copy of the Kh-31. The other might be an original Kh-31P.
