Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

This might've been mentioned already, Im not sure...direct me to the answer if it has. But is the JH-7A going to get new or upgraded engines? Because its pay load is seriously low...only 5 tonnes.

Don't know the link and the JH-7A doesn't hue a new engine ! It's still the Spey-2002 based - now indigenous - WS-9 Qinling turbofans ... if they are uprated to a highter thrust, I don't know.

But the payload I think is not 5 t, but 6,5 for the JH-7 and 7 t for the JH-7A ... I think quite sufficent for most missions !

Not so much upgraded engines but rather upgraded avionics, and further application of composite and refinements to the frame. For the PLA 6+ tonnes meets the current requirement for the PLA for most missions. Nearly comparable in terms of payload to the Flankers but still incapable of decent aerial combat. Like to see further refinment to the accuracy and precision of China's LGB and Laser targeting system.

Question to all what is the name that China gives that is equivalent to US "Bunker Buster?" Had the article about Chinese LGB and penetration munitions on my computer but its been wiped thats all, forgot the name.

JL-10 by standard already obselete, newer version report desaignated as JL-10/A uses russian make transmitter ,adding new SAR capability.

Is it mean JH-7/A series now modified to use JL-10 A radar? Why they keep produce JH-7 if it less in radar capabilities? not license MKK2/3 as JH-8? thx

As far as I know, they only produced 1 JH-7 and 3 JH-7A regiments, with 18-20 aircraft per regiment. So that adds up to maybe 80 planes?

The JL-10/A radar is being improved. While it's not as advanced as the latest western radars, the JH-7 is not exactly a front-line fighter anyway. What's important is its capability to deliver bombs on target, not intercepting enemy fighters.

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

they have around 6 regiments right now from my count. 2 in plaaf and 4 in planaf. And looks like some of the regiments in plaaf these days, they seem to go up to 24-28 per regiment. So, I think we might have as many as 150?

As for JL-10A, I'm sure JH-7A is using some more advanced radar now. I'm not sure what challenger is saying, because I think JL-10A always had SAR mode.

synthetic aperture radar, modern airborne radar all possess SAR and SAE/MTI capability.during operation enduring freedom, USN F-18 use SAR/MTI to detect taliban convoy heading toward northern afghanistan and successfully engage and destroy the supplied convoy.
