Is this news valid? It is an old news from August. I just found it today. To be honest, I don't believe it. But maybe somebody in here can tell me about this news.

No.
Jeez... they're quoting mil.sina... just for the record, don't trust any English sources quoting mil.sina for anything related to the chinese military, and also try to avoid directly quoting mil.sina (they're good for some pictures, that's about it), unless there is strong indications that any article or picture is reliable.

Mil sina is one of those sites where many BS claims by fanboys are made.

By the way ... any news on the JH-7B ??

The latest report or image I have is dated 15. December 2014 ... so nearly one year ago.

A bit strange IMO for a not so deep modernisation as previously expected ... so either it was cancelled, has run into problems (avionics ??) or what else ??

No recent news indeed... I wonder maybe if the Air Force and Navy both simply decided to not pursue it (possibly later elements would be involved as MLUs for JH-7As), and both decided to go with J-16 instead.

Exactly my idea ... after I've seen the first images I thought that will most likely me a simple MLU-program.

Anyway if indeed a MLU-package only, at least a few "could" have been modified in operational units ... but simply nothing so far.

A JH-7 new fighter bomber crashed in Weinan, near Yanliang on Dec. 22, 2014. It was a factory new JH-7 (we did know whether A or B). Two pilots were killed. One of the pilots was the original 5 J-15 pilots first trained and certified to operat on Liaoning. He flew the JH-7 as a test pilot.

Yes I remember ... but from the images alone it was not possible to deduct, if it was an A or a B.

Hmmm ... I was just comparing the latest GE-images esp. at Xi'an-Yanliang and I'm surprised that there are so many "new" (??) or at least yellow coloured JH-7s are standing around.

With new information in regard to any new unit since years and as such the conclusion, that the production has maybe even ended, nearly nothing on the JH-7B ... so what's going on there ??

Are these "simply" older JH-7As during regular depot-maintenance ? .. or are they undergoing a MLU-program maybe even to JH-7B standard ... or is the production still running ??

JH-7A or even B - several new at XAC - 26.12.15.jpg
