If such a deal goes through, I assume the aircraft will be made in Pakistan and not China? I imagine China has their hands full scaling up production (量产) of the aircraft that they need for themselves.

It might be advantaged in certain markets to have the aircraft be marketed by Pakistan rather than China. Conversely, in other markets its better to market it by China. The important thing is to remember that every fighter sold by China or Pakistan means one less figher sold by the United States.

I don't think China assembled any more JF17s other than the initial first batch to speed up PAF availability. CAC might not even have a production line for the plane anymore, vs Pakistan which is actively producing the plane.

Not sure, it could be Argentine intentionally leaked the document. If Argentine urgently wanted a new fighter, then financial arrangement could be made. But that is a BIG if.

Argentina most likely leaked it to pressure the Americans into allowing their wanted T50 sales. Although this also benefits China, so it may even have been a mutually agreed ‘leak’.

The British have been increasingly caving in to American pressure to take sides against China. This could be an unsubtle reminder that doing so would not be cost free for the UK.

If China wanted to, it can offer JF17s on credit to Argentina, or even work out some sort of barter, like quota’d access to Argentine waters for fishing. It may be worth it for China to spend a few billions to fuck with the UK if it lurches too far in favour of the Americans, as a sizeable fleet of JF17 BLK3s with a large inventory of China’s latest and greatest AShMs would fatally undermine the RN’s ability to defend the Falklands. The threat of that would be a powerful bargaining chip to ensure the British stay on-side of the Sino-American Cold War.

If the Argentine military of government did leak the letter, I have no idea what they thought the advantage would be. They could have just said in a press statement in general terms why the deal was blocked. I don't think it was disputed.

I would urge some caution. The Argentina option was mooted several years ago and came to nothing. I've seen articles periodically saying "renewed interest", etc, which is why I thought some people here might know the real situation.

"The London Post" sounds like one of those garbage websites that use credible-sounding titles to get views from non-locals. All they normally do is recycle real news from Reuters, AP, etc and then put some click-bait nonsense up. Same with "TWNews".

Argentina might be making enquiries again about the JF-17, but it could easily come to nothing.

JF17s for oil access/futures? Of course Argentina oil is less strategically valuable in wartime due to blockade but still could be useful during peacetime
