It seam as if this aircraft could be a good stopgap for countries that cannot afford a 4th generation fighter and need to get something in the air until they can acquire replacements.
Thank you,
Actually JF-17 is intented for many third world country that operated the Mig-21 or J-7 (F-7) in their air force to upgrade. It is a good and capable fighter and under capable hands, it can even prove to be quite a handful against more modern fighters.
Thus coupling the following,
1) Good avionic, upgradable and so provide a large future possibility.
2) Good weapon system package
3) Adequate engine power
4) Overall upgradable and modificable platform that make the aircraft very versatile and flexible.
5) Cheap.
6) I believe they actually share quite a number of similar components for Mig-21 and/or J-7 (F-7), it would make logistic simple for countries already operating Mig21 and/or J-7(F-7)
JF17 is a very tempting offer to third world country who couldn't afford first hand western aircrafts such as F-16, Gripen, F-18 etc.
